Hello,

Travel Tips for Leipzig
Gohliser Schloesschen
This "small castle or palace" (which is what "Schloesschen" means) is not far from the Schiller House. It was built in 1754-1756 as the summer residence of a city councilman and merchant named Johann Caspar Richter. It is now used as a venue for cultural events.
The Leipzig Opera puts on monthly recitals here on Sunday afternoons, each featuring a different ?singer from the ensemble. Today for instance (April 17, 2005) there is a recital by the American tenor Stanley Jackson, who is one of the newer ensemble members.
The address is Menckestrasse 23. Take the tram # 4 (get off at Menckestrasse) or # 12 (get off at Fritz-Seger-Strasse).

This is a relaxing restaurant bar lounge up on the 29th floor of City Hochhaus (former University Tower of Leipzig). We were there midday with not so many people inside so we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. The interior is cozy but the most important thing here is the view from the windows of course. The service was quick and friendly.
A cappuccino costs 2,5euro, a late macchiato 2.8e, a milchcafe 2.8e, and several soups 3.9-4.5euro. From the café you can go up to the observasion deck on the top floor.
Altes Rathaus
The Old City Hall was built 1556 by Hieronymus Lotter on basements of two Patrician houses. It is a beautiful Renaissance style building, 90 metres long with arcades (1906 - 09), six gables and a tower. In the 18th century the tower was enlarged and it got a Baroque spire.
Till 1904 the Old City Hall was home of the city administration. Then it became home of the city museum (and the administration moved to the New Town Hall).
Nikolaikirchhof square
Right next to St. Nicholas church you find Nikolaikirchhof square. In the middle of the square a copy of the unique pillars with palm tree like shape as to be seen inside St. Nicholas church was erected.
The most important building on the square is the old Nicholas school, the oldest civil school of Leipzig, opened in 1512. Restored in 1990 it is a restaurant now.
Famous students were e.g. Leibniz, Seume and Richard Wagner.
