The redevelopment of the mining landscape south of Leipzig was also a project for the World Exposition EXPO 2000.
A neighbourhood cafe
by german_eagle about Café Grundmann
This is a *must* if you want to hang out at a place where the locals go. And if you are a fan of Art Decò interior. Wow. Simply beautiful. And the food is delicious as well ... I had a ruccola salad with baked goat cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, then nothing for a while LOL and after an hour reading the newspaper and people watching I had a Leipziger Lerche, a local specialty (pastry) and a coffee (Großer Brauner) that came with a glass of water. Wow again.

Main Railway Station

Leipzig has a prestigious railroad history. It was the terminal of Germany's first long distance railway line, from Dresden to Leipzig, and soon became a hub of Central European railway traffic. It's famous old station has been renovated since the old East German times, and the massive new station is the biggest of its kind in Europe.
It's impressive architecture can be seen when passing through on the ICE route from Munich to Berlin, although you are not actually passing through at all, as it is a terminal station. The huge building contains not only the station, but a multistoried complex of shops and restaraunts. It's one of the nicest places to change trains in Europe.
