Bierboerse
by Leipzig
Bierbörse is a large Beerfestival. German brands but also the small house breweries whose beers are not often offered on draught outside their brewing locations are also regular guests at the Bierbörse events. Different bands make the atmosphere boiling.
Kellertheater (Basement Theater)
by Nemorino
Here's another alternative venue that belongs to the Leipzig Opera. This one is at the back of the opera house on the east side, i.e. the Post Office side.
Here they have seats for 99 spectators. They do smaller experimental productions in the Kellertheater, and also operas for and by children, featuring the Leipzig Children's Chorus, for instance "King Midas" and "The Race between the Rabbit and the Hedgehog".
Also there are performances with piano accompaniment of forgotten operas such as Jessonda by Louis Spohr. This is an opera which was first performed in 1823 and was quite popular for about thirty years after that, before gradually sinking into oblivion.
Local Beer in the train station
by IceBear7 about Gasthaus+Gosebrauerei Bayerischer Bahnhof
Built in 1842, this old "Bavarian" train station is the oldest stub terminal in the world still in use.
In the beautifully restored building there is a great restaurant and brewery, decorated with a lot of trains and train station memorabilia. In summer they have a beer garden, but not at the end of March.
If I remember the story correctly, there used to be three directions where trains were coming from to Leipzig. Two agreed to build one joint giant train station (Hauptbahnhof) but the trains from the South, from Bavaria, insisted on their own train station. Only right now they are building underground train tracks to connect the two stations. The famous Gose beer, you get it only in Leipzig and only in selected pubs/ restaurants. Very tasty! Unfortunately I had to driver later that afternoon, otherwise I could have tested that beer even better.

St. Thomas Church
by aliante1981
If you are in for architecture, you can take the opportunity to visit this 13th century church with white-washed walls. If you like music, the place is even more tailor-made for you: get the schedule of concerts. I found it available from the city's tourist office.
Watching the wildlife

Plan enough time to spent in the Zoo. We was there an entire morning. Many corals are just newly renovated and the Zoo made lots efforts to create the corals agreeable for the animals. At the moment they are building a new coral which should relect the African continent. The coral for the monkeys, Pongoland, was very huge. Not easy to say which animals I liked most. But amoung my favourits was the aquarium ...
