Travel Tips for Halle
Grave of August Hermann Francke, Stadtgottesacker
by Kathrin_E
August Hermann Francke (1663-1727), the founder of Franckesche Stiftungen, and his family are buried on Stadtgottesacker cemetery in a vault on the right side seen from the entrance. The family bought two of the vaults which were connected to a double burial chapel, arch 80/81. (There is a plan at the entrance gate showing the exact location of the graves of all those famous people who are buried here.)
Sternstraße (Star Street)
by Nemorino
This is a street with restaurants or pubs in just about every building.
I was told in Halle that the Sternstraße is where the "over thirty set" gathers in the evenings, as opposed to students and artists who tend to hang out in the Old Town near the university.

Old Town: Brüderstraße
by Kathrin_E
As a contrast to the previous two you should get an idea what most of the town looked like before renovations started. Brüderstraße, the next street parallel to Rathausstraße, is a good, though sad example. The large baroque house, for example, could be as beautiful as the others I have shown before. However, a tree on the balcony is the only inhabitant and it is almost in ruins.
Note the 1920s house corner Brüderstraße/Neunhäuser (photo 5). Interesting architecture and, unllike the others, in good shape.
Animals at the Zoo

Kea washing his food: zucchini and egg
Health food! Oh yummy...
I want meat!!!!
Iguana Diva
This is not the zoo office but the cage for the mice!
Prairie dogs
Diving sea lion
The native owls and birds of prey, like this falcon, that are kept in the zoo are injured wild animals. They had been taken care of and recovered but would not have a chance to survive in the wild any more.
