Travel Tips for Lutherstadt Wittenberg
Hundertwasser Architecture
by christine.j
There's more to Wittenberg than reformation history. The Austrain architect Hundertwasser built a school here in his famous style. The school is easily reconized , very colourful and full of unusual shapes. Hundertwasser's buildings are pieces of art, but designed for living and working in them. We didn't have the exact address, but walked in the direction and once we were close we couldn't miss it. A Hundertwasser building cannot be confused with anything else.
From the old town Collegienstrasse walk down towards the Luthereiche, turn left into Sternstrasse until there is a bank on the left side. Here turn right and walk until you see the school.
Luther-Melanchthon-Gymnasium
by Leipzig
Luther-Melanchthon-Gymnasium (Luther-Melanchthon-Grammar School) is located a bit off the main spots in the center. However, it worth a detour to see this beautifully decorated building by Hundertwasser. It is the only school in Germany that was desined by Hundertwasser. I love his work!
