When to buy or reserve tickets for opera or theater/ Best way to get tickets at best price
by oslocairo
Hi! When do I buy tickets for the opera when I will be in Berlin for the 1st week in April?
I'm thinkig about the traditional fora such as Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Komische Oper, Deutche Oper Berlin, Neukollner Oper, and perhaps concert halls like the Philharmonie, Kammermusiksaal, konzerthaus Berlin?
I don't speak German, so it would be helpful if I am directed to an online site, that it be in English.
Is it better to buy online or once I arrive?
Thanks!

Hello,
you can book tickets for all kinds of events from the home page of Berlin Tourist Information:
www.berlin-tourist-information.de
The site is in English, too. You can also call them (when you're in Berlin) to get the latest news about concerts and events, they should be speaking English. :-) Or buy your tickets at the Berlin Info Stores which offer special discount prices for certain concerts.
Greetings,
Elena

Thanks Elena!
That sounds simple enough. I am really excited about seeing some concerts in Berlin. I hear the prices are pretty good and the venues nice. I am going to the site right now!

Hi OC,
I was in Berlin in December 2007. We arrived on Thursday and were able to get tickets for the Deutche-Oper that evening without any problem at all. We just walked into the theatre around 5 in the afternoon and were able to look at the seating plan and see what was available. We got excellent tickets for just EUR17. Even with the StaatOper they always seem to have last-minute tickets available. On my Berlin page I have booking addresses for Deutsche Oper and the Philharmonie - can't remember them off the top of my head. The Philharmonie was the highlight of my trip to Berlin.
Have you looked at VT member Nemorino's pages ? He is the VT expert on opera and classical music and on his Berlin page you will find every detail you could possibly want to know about clasical music and opera in the city.

Thanks Ekaterina.
I'd love to see the Philharmonie especially, but I thought it would be too difficult to get tickets after I arrive. That's great news. I will try to get a ticket as soon as I arrive.

Ekaterinburg:
Sorry. I meant to type "Ekaterinburg", instead of Ekaterina.

Actually Ekaterina is so much nicer than Ekaterinburg, so no problem :)
It was the opera I got the ticket for the night I arrived. The Philharmonie had been booked in advance by the person who organised our trip. So that one you probably do need to book ahead :))

Thanks again. Ny chance at any of the good performaces is worth looking for for me. In Los Angeles, while we have some great performace places, it seems like classical works much more expenisve than in Berlin, so I'd like to take advantage of seeing some while here, perhaps the ballet or some opera.
Travel Tips for Berlin
In Memory of the Berliners....
by listenandlearn

Here you will view crosses that were placed in memory of the Berliners who at one time tried to escape from the East to the West of Berlin. However, we were just advised by a Berliner that these crosses representing the victims no longer exists and were recently removed some few weeks ago as the lease for this plot of land had expired. This particular page we would never consider it fondest memory, it certainly is a very and extremely very sad memory, (regardless of ones nationality, when you read the details and see the faces of these poor victims it makes you very sad and even cry...)as these is the exact location where the Eastern Berliners were killed, shot, hung, cruel slow death... when they tried to escape and jumped over the fence going to the West of Berlin.
Schloss Sanssouci Gardens
by bpwillet
Some of the most beautifully landscaped and most expansive gardens in the area. Well worth the visit to see each one. There is a lot to see so take the time to walk around as much as you would like. A bike may also be nice to have if you are just visiting the parks and not entering any buildings.
Pergamon Museum.

This great museum built in 1922, is a magnificent place. Inside you can find the wonders of the Ishtar Gate, The Pergamon Altar, The Mileto´s market gate, and the facade of the castle of Mschatta. This building only deserves a trip to Berlin.

i understood this as the most important symbol of freedom when i was in berlin. i unexcusably didn't know much about the history of this landmark, and that is due to my laconic attention span in regards to history. it's one of the checkpoints (or entrances) between east and west berlin. it is heart wrenching, inspiring and it sets your priorities straight, if only for a couple of hours.
stuff

we went to checkpoint charlie, went through the museum that has replicas and original cars and gadgets people invented to get through the wall (smuggling kids in suitcases, hiding in trunks of cars, digging tunnels underground, flying over the wall in a hot air balloon, etc.) i have been using the metro like a champ, after getting lost a few times of course. i walked through this really old turkish community that has the meat of "real" germany. i had a doner kabab. it was so delicious. we saw the Reichstag, the Brandenburg gate and did a lot a lot a lot of walking .... not eating much of their food. truly, the best food in germany is not german. we went to this beer garden last night and my friend ordered a veal brat and it came in a pot of hot water....just a brat in hot water...and it was white. no bun.... it's just different. i had something that looked like 3 really long red sausages, 3 pieces of an unidentifiable brown bread and half a plate of sauerkraut that looked like mashed potatoes. it was pretty damn good though once i put it all together with some mustard.
