Friedrichstadt - Beautiful little town
by metteks
I visited on a daytrip. It is a nice and quiet little town with beautiful arcitecture.
We went on a canal tour. It was ok, but there aren't that many canals to sail, so in the end it seemed like he just sailed around the harbour to fill out the time. Still it was a nice and relaxing way to see the town.

In the 17th century the Count of this district let refugees from the Netherlands settle here and build some sort of a "Dutch Colony"
I guess I could have used this picture as well for any Dutch-page or even for my "Curacao-page"
These religion-refugees had to leave their country because they were not willing to convert their faith.
There was a small river running through the village, and the new settlers added a lot of canals, so most of the houses would have access to the river.
and they also built their houses according to the Dutch traditions.
This is the "EIDER" - the original river
These "leaning houses" are no mis-constructions. It was made that way in order to be able to transport goods to the upper levels with the help of a crane fixed on top.The things were then taken in at the windows.
