Bird's eye view to Kiel
Kiel is the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, the most northern state of the Federal Republic of Germany. This regional center on the Baltic Sea is an important ship building port, and there are frequent ferry connections via the Kiel canal to the North Sea. They have a nice university where they offer every subject from agriculture to the Zodiacal Belt, and students can do a lot of sailing in their spare time! Not bad eh? :)
Possibly one of the oldest preserved buildings in Kiel which survived the bombings!!!
This closter was built in 1240 as the fulfilment of a religuous vow by the city founder Count Adolf IV von Schauenburg, following the victory over the Danes.
There are guided tour to visit the monastery and you can go up to the high bell tower.
For people living in Gothenburg, Sweden, and its surroundings, Kiel is a regularly visited place in Germany. For the simple reason that there is a ferry that goes between the two cities several times a day. Kiel is not too big of a city with a population of cirka 246 000 people, but it's a good place for shopping with many stores and restaurants.
