Team Handball, anyone?

I have been obsessed with the sport of Team Handball for years. Most Americans have no idea what it is. It is NOT handball as most people know it (bouncing a ball against a wall).
It is a very exciting, hybrid sport: part Water Polo (without the water), part Rugby (without the scrum) and part basketball (without the basket). You have to see it to enjoy it's fast paced action.
I travelled about an hour and a half outside of Hamburg to "Lubeck-Travermunde" which is a very attractive, tidy seaside resort town. There I went to a local community sports venue on the Steenkamp and watched the final Ladies' amateur game of the season. Looks like the home-team won handily.
I would recommend this slice of Lubeck for its own sake, too.
Salzspeicher

On the riverside near the Holstentor lie Lubeck's historic and beautiful Salzspeicher (Salt Warenouses). These buildings are a reminder of how important a trading town Lubeck once was. The oldest of the warehouses dates from the 16th century though and the most recent was added in the 18th Century though by the 19th Century the salt trade was no longer as lucrative and the warehouses were abandoned and almost torn down. Luckily someone decided to preserve them as they are among the nicest buildings in Lubeck.
Salzspeicher (Salt storehouses)

I really loved seeing these houses, they are the Salzspeicher or in English : the Salt storehouses. While walking along the canal at the 'An der Obertrave' street, I could see the Salzspeicher on the other side of the water. They really looked great from here and I would say you have the best view on them from this side. The salt storehouses are located next to the Holsten Gate (see later tip) and that makes them really easy to find.
DIE ALTSTADT

Seen from on top of the ST. PETRI TOWER it is clear where the ALTSTADT is...where to find the buildings with their tyipcal ancient gables and the lovely red roofs......
Dow there in 5 of these old buildings is the PUPPEN THEATER AND MUSEUM housed, which place is very worthy of a visit and at the riverbank is the GREAT restaurant: YACHTZIMMER, a place where you really should go.....
There was an air raid in 1942 on Lübeck and 2/3 of the city was destroyed but what was still in good order was restored with much care.....
Walk and enjoy the ALTSTADT.....

I am talking here about guided tours over the vaults and in the tower of the MARIENKIRCHE (Marienchurch) in Lübeck.
OPEN: April - October: every Saturday 3.15PM
and every last Saturday of the month at 8.30PM
June - September: eery Wednesday 3.15PM
Tickets can be bought at the KIOSK in the Church Hall.
NOTE: no more than 25 persons can participate....
The tour will last some 2½ hours.
