Electrical appliances

For 'grounded' plugs, the "Schuko" plug and receptacle with side grounding contacts is used (see picture)

The receptacle will also accept the not-grounded plug shown in the previous tip.

Rathaus and Rathausmarkt

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Cosy Rathausmarkt is rather imposing.
The Renaissance Town hall of the sixteenth century - Rathaus and The Church of Maiden Maria - Marienkirche represent one of the most interesting architectural complexes in Northern Germany.

Salzspeicher

by Carletto76

On the Trave river waterfront, just right of the Holstentor there is a row of wonderful old gabled buildings called the Salzspeicher (salt warehouses).
They were built during 16th and 17th centuries and used to store the salt coming from Lüneburg going on the way to Scandinavia.

Marienkirche

by barryg23

The Marienkirche was badly damaged in WW2 though it has been well restored since. Inside is an exhibiton on Lubeck and the church during and after WW2 right up to its restoration. The most striking picture was the one showing the church with its distinctive two spires missing.

Also very interesting were the model replicas of the church in its various forms (it has been rebuilt 3 times) and the bells, which have been leftr in ruins where they fell after the Allied bombing in 1942.The interior is spacious, light and airy with a nice colour on the walls. The astrological clock does seem slightly out of place in Christian church.

Overall it's well owrth visiting this church. There is no entrance price though there is a suggested donation of 3 Euro for the upkeep of the church.

Museum at Holstentor

by Rupanworld

After crossing the Holstentor gate, we climbed up the stairs from behind inside the building and on 1st floor came across a museum of the city's history starting from the middle ages. The museum was started here in 1950. It's worth a look. Tickets are available downstairs.
