Marriage / Heiraten auf der Wartburg

Marriages are held at the Wartburg as well and the Wartburghotel will help you with all necessary prepaprations, BUT once again, their web-page explaines it only in german and so it might be the best to contact them at the web-adress below and I am sure, as soon as some foreign people had their marriage at Wartburg, they will also have it explained in English !
The way I understand it is that the marriage will be held in the historic rooms of the Hotel, NOT the castle !!! But you can certainly arrange for a private tour through the Wartburg after the marriage !

I am fond of sightseeing. Visiting marvels of architecture, historical places, highlights of the region gives me a real thrill. But then a moment comes when I've got enough - enogh of noise, crowds of tourists, enough of information to be remembered and spots to be admired. Then I'd like to leave it all and get to a tranquil place far away from all hustle and bustle of a town.
I've found such a place near Eisenach - it's of unique charm but still very peaceful and at the time of our visit almost completely empty..
The place is called Drachenschlucht (Dragon Gorge). It is a ravine which at its narrowest point is just 68 centimetres wide. Its sides, at places even ten metres high, are overgrown with moss. To make the hike possible there is a walkboard installed, under which you hear the brook flowing.
The whole walk through the ravine takes about 40 minutes.
Bürgerbuero / Stadtverwaltung

Bürgerbuero / Stadtverwaltung is the name of another building on the main square, opposite of the Georgenkirche, its adress is "Markt 12". Dont miss to take a closer look at these special details of the fence around the entrance-door of that building.

Weimar is a great day-excursion from Eisenach

Weimar is a great day-excursion from Eisenach, it is just about 35 km ! Take the whole day to explore Weimar and all of its sights or take a least a look and a stroll over the main square with the townhall in great renaissance style and plenty of lovely houses.
On my photographs :
1) My favorite building is the one with the green decorations, this building is also used by the tourist-information, you will find it on the main square.

5) Anna-Amalia-Library / Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek burned down in September 2004 but 850.000 books could be saved and only 50.000 were lost forever.
End of October 2007 the first 50.000 books were taken back to the restored library .
I had been there in 2006, so my pics are just from the building during the restauration-time, but at least you get some sort of an impression what it will look like.
Lutherhaus - one of the oldest houses in Eisenach

Lutherhaus is one of the most beautiful half-timered houses of Eisenach. Some ledgends are telling us that Martin Luther spent 3 years of his life as a young child in this house between 1498 and 1501.In 1898 it became a restaurant, called "Lutherkeller" and after the bombings of WW II a Luthermuseum was installed there and shows the different steps in the life of Martin Luther !
The museum in Lutherhaus is open daily 10.00a.m. - 05.00p.m.
In case that you arrive at night or outside of the opening-hours of the museum it makes sense to take a look at the lovely facade, see also my extra photographs !
