where is good to stay

by rrnewt1

Hi,
I have read all 71 Erfurt Member Tips. Been to http://www.erfurt.de/ef/en/. Wed, 17 Nov,. 17:45 i arrive Erfurt Weimer (ERF), bus line 99 in front of the terminal departing Airport 18.25, arriving Bus station 18:41. Thu, 18 Nov, i want to use the train Erfurt Hbf to Praha-Holesovice dep 07:29, arr 12:20 or dep 15:29, arr 20:20 - which is better? The main train station is in center erfurt, where is the bus station, http://www.evag-erfurt.de/inhalt/bilder/PDF/Tarifplan_08_2004.pdf looks like the Hauptbahnhof-Busbahnhof are the same? Sun., 21 Nov., i plan to arrive back at Erfurt Hbf; Thu, 25 Nov., 18:10 i Depart Erfurt (ERF) = 4 nights in Erfurt, i plan to stay near the train station, any ideas about where is good to stay, do you know about: Familie Kleinhampl Dalbergsweg 26, D-99084; Hotel Grenzenlos Jonny-Scher-Straße 12, D-99085; Hotel Garni Am Domplatz, Andreasstr. 29, D-99084, Pension Wegerich, Hotel IBIS?

Thanks

Erfurt city map
http://stadtplan.erfurt.de/cgi-bin/ef-asp.plx?L=en
(you can search for streets under "Search")

Busbahnhof is approx 100-150 m from the Hauptbahnhof.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/english.html
go to the "Advanced Search" folder
From: [Station/Stop] Erfurt Flughafen
To: [Address] Erfurt, Dalbergsweg 26 (or any other address)

Thus you'll see how you can reach this place by public transport and get even a map for the few meters you have to walk.

The first connection has 2 advantages
a) only 1 change. With the later connection you have to change in Dresden-Neustadt and Dresden Hbf.
b) the nicest part of this route is the part south of Dresden through Saxony Switzerland. With the later connection it will be already dark when you reach this part.

Travel Tips for Erfurt

Great Event - Festival on Stairs of Cathedral

by elgin99

Domstufenfestspiele -every year a great event on the stairs of Cathedral. You should buy the tickets very early because many tourists from all regions of Germany visit that festival and mostly selled out. What for colours, what for an accustic and what a life in that town during the night. This year it was the fairy tale "The Moon" (Orff), next it will be "Cavalleria Rusticana".
Fantastic, also because of that grandious background of the cathedral! Look for some pictures of Festival website, or some of me round about that event.

Kleine Synagoge

by lonestar_philomath

The Kleine Synagoge contains artifacts and pictures of the history of the Jews in this city. The Synagoge was built in 1840 in the Classic style. I don't know why the Synagoge is painted yellow. Perhaps because during WWII the identification of a Jewish person was the yellow star worn on the sleeve?

Let the world never forget what happened here lest we permit this to happen again (why does man allow this to occur?). The Iranian president wants people to forget!

Anger

by Nemorino

The Anger is one of Erfurt's main squares. All the streetcar lines cross here, so you can change here to get from anywhere to anywhere else in Erfurt.

The name Anger has nothing to do with the English word anger. In German it is a regional word meaning meadow or village square, and it has been in use for this square in Erfurt since at least 1196.

At Anger 35 there is a Service Center where you can get opera and theater tickets. It is open Monday - Friday from 10:00 to 18:00, and Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00. Telephone (03 61) 2 23 31 55.

Krämerbrücke

by Leipzig

The Krämerbrücke is one architectural highlight in Erfurt. It was established first from wood and 1325 from stone. On six arches stood originally 62 narrow houses which were summarized on 32.
It is surely fun to life in such a house. Wake up in the morning, grap your fishing rod and get your meal from your living room's window.

EGA

by evona

The ega is justifiably called the Garden Of Thuringia in Erfurt. The "iga park" which comes into being in 1959, has been turned into the present ega Garden and Amusement Park. There are to see the numerous theme gardens, a plant display house, a butterfly house. Great is too the Japanese Garden.
