We were staying in the quaint little village center and wondered about the big white building atop the hill, overlooking the village. So we climbed the hill and nearing the white building it looked like a sanatorium or health spa from another era. Just around the 70s or something, rather forlorn (we were approaching from the back) and not very attractive.
Once coming to the side of the building we discovered it was a hotel, looking quite modern inside, not as disagreable as it was from the outside. Looking at the car park, there were a few guests at least. But not enough to fill the 124 rooms that the hotel seems to have.
Anyway, on our visit to the village museum a few days later, we discovered that the big white building replaced a much older and nicer building which was broken down in 1972. I found a painting of the old building and you can see a photo of it in this tip.
There may be more modern amenities in this hotel (there is also a restaurant) BUT if you want to go local, informal and feel welcome, I would choose the hotel we stayed in: Zur Linde.
