Churches and more churches!
by Urzu
Saabrücken is definitely a city of churches. They have all sizes and shapes, and you'll even find them when you least expect it! I remember talking to my German teacher while living in SB, and he told me that from his appartment who could actually see 9 church towers, which is quite nice if you ask me! In any case I haven't been able to find information on all of them, sadly. One of my favourite churches in SB was St. Michael, situated in the Nauwieserviertel. What I liked most about it was it's very unusual shape and inside!
Altes Rathaus- The old City Hall
by Urzu
This building dates from the mid 1700's, and was described as Saabrücken's coat of arms. The baroque dome was destroyed during WWII, and re-built in the late 40's. Nowadays the old city hall hosts the Saarbrücken Volks Hoch Schule (the school for adult education). What I love about this building? The fact that I learned German in it! My classroom was actually the one with the balcony :)!!
Staatstheater - The City Theatre
by Urzu
This theatre hosts different plays, concerts, operas, etc. It was built around 1937, after the instructions of Paul Otto August Baumgarten. This theatre was supposedly built by the German Reich, so that the people of Saarbrücken would "choose" them, as Saarbrücken was then in between sides.
aliante1981's new Saarbrucken Page

I spent just few hours in Saarbrucken, on my way from Germany to France in 1996. Too little time to get to know this place but enough to have a wish to get back there.
The picture above: blue sky, green hills, and (though not here!) a castle by chance will happen to be on top of a hill - that's the Land of Saar
