 | Gibraltar Reviews | Tips 11 - 20 of 77 | | I have not stayed in any of the hotels in Gibraltar, but if you happen to be looking the best place to go is the tourist information office located in Casemates Square, from there they can tell you all you need to know. Things may have changed, as I stayed in this hotel in 1994! However at the time it was claiming to be a 5 star hotel. We only stayed there as we had a very good deal at the time. However when we went into the room, we were shocked at how antiquated it was. It wasn't a particularly nice room at all, although it had a very good view out over the Straits of Gibraltar. They claim this hotel is an institution, and has had the likes of Sean Connery stay in it, but it looked at the time like this institution had not been modernised since it was built!
There's a casino next door if this sort of thing interests you... Leave a Comment

I stayed here in February 2002 and was very satisfied although it is a fair walk or a bus ride away from the main town. I recommend getting a room with a sea view as the Rock is filled with noisy sea birds in the early mornings. Being on the Eastern side of the Rock you will also benefit from a wonderful sunrise. Nice public areas and restaurant. Very comfortable rooms and I could not fault the service.
It's location, whilst at times a bit inconvenient, does make it a quiet and peaceful hotel to stay at. There is a beautiful enclosed garden at one side that provides a nice peaceful haven. I have also seen this referred to as the Caleta Palace Hotel

The hotel quotes itself as 'Gibraltars best priced' and it probably is. We went in June 2005 for a short weekend break and because the Bristol had put their prices up we decided to give this hotel a try. I emailed them and then confirmed on the telephone. This hotel also includes an english breakfast in their price which the Bristol doesnt. I think Gib hotels are expensive and am amazed that some actually say they are ful1 especially at the prices they charge.
There is no pool or anything fancy. However there is a bar open until midnight. (I think) a large lounge area next to the bar. A large restaurant where breakfast is also served. We stayed at the Queen's Hotel, just across the street from the parking lot for the cable lift to the Rock. It's a moderately priced hotel, which serves English breakfast (one egg, a couple of strips of bacon, a slice of tomato and toast).
The sitting room / bar area was right out of Victorian times. I would imagine at one time women were not allowed in that room. It had that oak and leather feel to it. This picture is the view from our balcony at sunset.

Accomodation is a little hard to come by in Gibraltar. I opted for the Queens Hotel, on the other side of the high street. One of the cheaper ones, but all accomodation is pricey here.
A very traditional restaurant and lounge, suited to the over 50's. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelComparison: less expensive than average

Recomended for a great experience.Outdoor pool across road.Views great.Sit on your balcony and watch the shipping go by.Road outside noisy.
Have stayed at The Rock many times. It is an experience in itself. It is a long hard climb from town but more pleasant if you walk through the lovely botanic gardens. The butterflies in summer are lovely. They have added a small zoo to the gardens to house animals confiscated from illegal shipments. Only thing I don't like about the hotel is the beds are a liitle too firm.Afternoon tea on the terrace is wonderful. Have to admit, I havent stayed here YET. But I am planning to next time. It was built in 1932 by the Marquis of Bute
Great Views, swimming pool, decorated in a colonial style, AND of course .............................Michael Palin stayed here both before he ventured off to Africa and then again on his return, when filming his "Sahara" series. Leave a Comment
