cigarettes

by steve8132

Can someone please tell me how much 200 cigarettes (preferabley super king blues) are in crete?
Also ,as greece is in the eu, I'm assuming you can bring back a significant number to the uk.

Re: cigarettes

You're not actually allowed a 'significant number' from all EU countries, but Greece is ok. Up to 3200 cigarettes:

Can't recall exactly how much from my last visit, but think 20 cigarettes are around 3 euro (varies slightly according to brand...don't assume you'll be able to get all/most/many UK brands).

Travel Tips for Crete Island

Driving to Balos beach

by oriettaIT

In 2005 I drove the rough road through the Gramvoussa peninsula. It start a bit after Kastelli Kissamos, you have to follow the "Balos beach Hotel" road sign and than follow the path.. it was quite uneven, with hole and stones but driving very slowly and carefully it have been possible with a normal car in about one hour. Off road vehicle would be better even because the rental company's insurance never cover the bottom of the car.
You will get to a park area up in the last part of the peninsula and you will have to walk down a path for maybe 30 minutes to reach the beach... the view from up there is breath taking..

Please This place is a corner of paradise... make sure to bring with you ALL your rubbish when you leave!!!

The longest gorge in Europe

by himalia11

Walking down the gorge of Samaria is a great experience. It’s a fascinating landscape. At the beginning, you have to walk down in serpentines and will see below the ground of the gorge and above you the big mountains, it looks great! Then, the way will lead you through the gorge, with a view on the steep rock faces, several clean sources (you should drink and refill your bottles!), and a river. Sometimes you have to climb a bit over the rocks. About at the half of the way, you’ll find the abandoned village Samaria. I still wonder that there used to live people there!

The way is about 16 km long (the longest gorge in Europe!), it took us 5 hours. We were told that the altitude difference is 1200 meters. It’s an exhausting walk and especially during the last kilometres, I had the impression that it never end. But finally, we arrived and swimming in the sea was a great reward after this long walk! And the next day, I had sore muscles…

There’s a little village at the end of the gorge, and the only possibility to leave the place is by ship. We had a guided tour which was practical as everything was organized. We haven’t seen much of the guide, though, he was quite fast! There are lots of tourist in the gorge, especially at the beginning it’s a bit unpleasing, but then the people spread in the gorge, so it’s okay.

blonde tourist women

by Balam

Xanthies touristries, blonde tourist women. Highly appreciated by the "kamakia", the young hot-blooded Greek lovers. Love stories between men of Crete and tourists are common each year. Most of them are just summer loves but a few marriages come out of them also. The result is the many european women living in Crete, mostly German, Dutch and Scandinavian. Be aware though, that having a romantic love affair during your holiday is one thing and living in Crete married to a Cretan man is totally different. The cultural differences are many and it is very important not to ignore them

Hitchhiking around the island

by spoutnek

It is not difficult to Hitshike in Crete to visit all the places you would like to go in all the directions. There are thousands of other tourists driving through the beautiful cretan landscape and they would like to have your company. If the tourists wont stop for you not to wrroy a cretan villager will put you on the back of his track, and enjoy then the fresh air.
