April in Crete

by jvictor28

Hello! I am planning a short trip to Crete for April 20-24. Can anyone tell me what to expect the weather to be like this time of year? I hope to do some hiking and relaxing-- is there anything else you would recommened that I see while I'm in Crete?? Any suggestions are welcome!!

Also, I'm trying to do this trip as cheaply as possible, so any suggestions on a good (but cheap!) place to stay? Thanks for your help!!

Trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local on the day variations.
This information should be used as a guide only.
Here is the average weather for Hersonissos for this time of year.
Enjoy your holiday

April.
High 64f / 18c
Low 50f / 10c
Rain 1.70in / 43.0mm
Rain days 5
Hours of sun 8
Daylight hours 13
UV level 7 = Very High
Sea temp 61f / 16c

There are only a couple of degrees difference in temprature across the island.

it's the best time of the year for hiking because it's not hot and a lot of the trials are exposed. besides samaria gorge which is a must see, i like the hike to aradhena gorge near(ish) to loutro.

Travel Tips for Crete Island

"HRISI ISLAND, or Gold Island"

by Aggeliki

A small island is situated south of Crete, just 9 miles of Ierapetra town. It is called as '"HRISI" (Gold), a incredible exotic small island all covered with white sand, cedar tree forests and beautiful beaches. It can be reached by small boats.

Baklava

by Fam.Rauca

Baklava
Baklava is a honey-nut pastry, very sweet and delicate.
The ingredients of baklava are: puff pastry, honey, thick sugar and nuts.
You can find this exquisite pastry in each pastry shop in Crete.
The small baklava is sold by gram and the big after the number of pieces.
The manufacture of the baklava is mainly handicraft and this is a reason for the high price of it.
The best baklava that we had in Crete was in a pastry shop in centre of Ierapetra.

Preveli beach

by call_me_rhia

Preveli beach is a ery scenic beach, especially when seen from high up: there's the sea at the front and a river at the back. In one day you can get a salty and a resh water swim. You can also walk along the river and admire the canyon and vegetation, or rent kayaks to go upstream. There's soft sand and may trees for some precious shade. Parking (uphill) is 1.50 euros, and all the money goes to the Preveli monastery swimsuit and sunscreen, and a pair of comfortable shoes to wal down to the beach: there's a steep path - rocky at some points too. Definitely not the place to go wearing slippers

Agios Georgios

by call_me_rhia

Agios Georgios is a village on the Lassithi plateau. Sleepy is the term that best appies to this small traditional village: through its white-washed lanes we did not meet anyone. Supposedly there's a small museum of folklore, which we never found. What we found was a magical/eerie atmosphere and perfect silence broken only by our footsteps. We surely enjoyed our brief stop.
