Looking for ideas for studios Gerani area early June

by sueshearer

Hi everyone.

We are coming to Crete in about three weeks time and are looking for a studio in the Gerani area. It seems to be nice and quiet, but with good links to Chania and Rethymno.

I did have a wonderful site but needless to say, I forgot to bookmark it!

Any ideas more than welcome; our needs are simple, close to the beach, shops, tavernas and the bus and a swimming pool for the really lazy days would be nice. Our budget is around 30-40 Euros a night and we will be staying about six nights.

Any suggestions gratefully received as I 6think we need to think about booking quite soon (we don't arrive until very late at night, so do not want to leave it to chance).

Many thanks in advance.

Travel Tips for Crete Island

Snorkeling

by himalia11

We had hotel next to Elounda and found this a great place to snorkel. There is a “sunken city”, and although we didn’t see anything of it (I’m not sure if the stones we saw belong to it!), it was very interesting. Water in this part is not deep, even me who has problems to dive (cannot pipe down long) could go down to the ground and admire the fishes, starfishes and water plants. It’s a rocky place, so take care of sea orchins! Outside the water, you can watch crawfishes, and we once saw a native who was “washing” an octopus. It was great to snorkel and you can do interesting excursions!

IEREPTRA

by RACCOON1

Iereptra is a fairly large town on the south coast of Crete . It has a good beach and seem to attract a lot of young travveler types.

They grow eggplant in this area and hence they make the best Mousaka in Greece.

CHILDREN WELCOME

by BerniShand

The Greek people love children, if you travel there with children, especially an angelic looking one who`s parents gave her a Greek name, little old ladies will stop you in the street to admire, kiss and pat on the cheek

Scuba or Hiking

by bpwillet

Crete has many Scuba shops and companies to choose from. If you have already been certified or would like to become certified they have all kinds of dives for you. Kalathas is a great place to Dive and you can Dive with Creta Divers. They take excellent care of you and you can get certified in about 3 days.
Another activity is hiking. The large mountainous area around Stavros beach is a great place to go hiking and to look out across the island. It is pretty rocky and there isn't a well made path. But if you are adventurous you will find your way. The views from the top are amazing. Crete has many areas that are great for hiking. If you get the time, give them a try. You will not need any equipment other than your bathing suit if you plan on going diving. If you plan on hiking you will want to make sure you have a good set of hiking boots and a good amount of water.

Elefonisi - The Carribean in Crete

by mitscherman

A great way to spend a day or a weekend. Beautiful beach, crystal clear water, natural preserve. There are a few snack bars here but it is best to bring your own lunch and beverage. Bring your tend and spend the night :-)
