the best holiday i have ever been on
by A TripAdvisor Member
i went to crete in march of this year and stayed at the rinella beach hotel. it was the first time that i had ever been to greece and after staying at Rinella it has made me want to revisit, and stay in Rinella Beach again. i went with my family and a friend and i can say that it was the best holiday that i have ever been on. the food was lovely but there is not much choice throughout the week (the same everyday of the week). i visited the chinese restaurant when i was there and it was the nicest chinese food that i have ever eaten, and the fact that it was cooked infront of you made it even better. everybody at the hotel really made you feel welcome, especially the reps. all of them where a laugh to be around and when they where there, you enjoy every minute. all of them- noo noo, thomas, magda, elena, migi, alex and nemo.
it was the best holiday ever
Wonderful Time

I stayed at the Rinella Beach with my boyfriend last September. We had a lovely time there, and although the hotel isn't quite the 5 star it says it is, we couldn't fault the holiday.
I think one side of the hotel has been re-furbished whereas the other side hasn't. Friends of ours got the side that hadn't been and weren't too happy with their room, but they asked to move and were. We had a lovely room, with a view of the sea.
The food there was great, especially in the Taverna (fresh pizzas and pasta) and there was always enough room by the pool or on the beach.
Overall, I would say a really good holiday at a good price!

Just got back from three fantastic weeks at Rinella Beach.
Party consisted of myself, the wife and three kids (7, 9 and 13) and thought I’d better tell others about our time there so, clicked on this review page and what do I find but, a few whingeing reviews.
Did these reviewers go to a different Rinella Beach from us?
We must have been there at the same time as them and we did not have any problems.
Break it down:
No it’s not a five star but, it does not pretend to be so, for all those who need it broken down, here goes.
Rooms: clean and range from 3 – 4 star according to which room you get, big plus point with all the rooms is they all have VERY GOOD individual air condition which was a must.
Food: VERY VERY good but, if you like your meat and two veg and are used to your Sunday roast you may be disappointed. The food is vary varied and fresh but reflects more of a European theme including (surprise, surprise) a Greek theme
Restaurant/s: There are three restaurants, main one, Chinese and a Taverna over looking the beach (the later two you need to book for, but still all inclusive) and the quality is good through out. You do get queues for the main restaurant but average is 10 -15 mins at busy time (I’ve had to queue longer at the post office)
Swimming pools: Clean and well maintained and if you really want to know, they are salt water (for those of you who have not swum in a salt water pool, you can easily float on your back and go to sleep!)
Animation/entertainment: These guys can be a bit pushy but once they know your not interested (or boring) they will leave you alone but, if you have kids then they will be entertained all the time and lets face it, your on holiday, let your hair down.
Bars: There are bars everywhere you look i.e.; poolside, indoors and on the beach and the beer and local spirits are good quality and large measures. Certain times of day you are waited on for drinks and at other times you walk to the bar to order.
Staff/attitude: really depends on the way you treat them and what your expectations are. If your one of these people who thinks you have paid to have people grovel to you then spend your money elsewhere. The staff here are courteous and polite although the reception staff can be a little bit abrupt at times (it was the peak season).
Other: let’s forget about the Jet Skis, Parascending, Jet skiing which seem to have been omitted (all at a small nominal charge) and Pedaloes, Canoes etc etc which are free/inclusive (some one forget to mention these). A very private beach and so on.
Summary: If you want to relax, you can, if you want to be entertained you will be, although you may have to get out of your seat occasionally to be a part of things.
This is not a hotel in the States, or a far away exotic place, it’s in Crete and surprise surprise, there are Greek people/staff there who are not British (strange that!)
Look at the positive reviews on this and other sites and make your mind up but as one reviewer has implied, we would rather you don’t go as I, like him, would like to keep it all to myself.
If you are typically British and prefer a typically British holiday abroad then go to Spain where you can have bacon for breakfast and the staff will grovel to “engleesh person”.
If you want a comfortable base you are looked after and if wish to explore the culture you can (the staff will organise a hamper/picnic for you FREE).
I personally, along with my family WILL be going back.
People above all.

My wife and I stayed at Rinella Beach on 12-19th Oct 2004. The hotel is situated some 10 miles from the Capital Heraklion. It is part of a major hotel group and caters for mainly British,German, French, and Belgain holiday makers on a European all included basis. The hotel is sited off a sand/shingle small private beach with full sunbed and drinks and refreshment facilities. Rooms, which are the biggest problem are set in chalet units in gardens off beach. The chalets resemble a 1950s style holiday camp hut. While equiped with basic furniture and a portable TV . rooms are barely 2 Star. The complex also includes a centrally located large pool of excellent quality,a small entertainment
centre for Disco, live shows etc. A lovely outdoor cafe and sunbathing areas. Above and set back again is a new main building complex holding the Reception,Dining Room,Bars, and relaxing Terrace.
It should be added that this area caters for disabled visitors with ramps and easy access.
The real Gem of this hotel is its Staff, we have stayed in many hotels Worldwide, this one is Tops for service 24 hours a day, nothing is a problem here, a lost key,a noisy air conditioner, a drink replenishment, all was taken care of with a smile in an instant. There is even a China Garden restraunt
for that special dinner. For the kids there is a daily programme of fun and games, for adults there are several shops including Jewelers, beach gear and daily requirements, a Hairdresser, Car hire site, and gift shop. The hotel itself has plenty of parking and is set back from a not so busy road in a village location. These are our personal points from max 5 for each service.

Didn't want to leave

Had a great time here. I loved the all-inclusive thing, it was brilliant getting everything for free.
The thing that made the holiday so great though were the Animation team: Magda, Katka, Pim, Mimo, Mario, Alex and Akosh- they were so much fun and the activities were excellent.
Agreeing with another reviewer, the females at the reception did seem a little rude- I didn't like them at all.
I want to be back!

I am 15 and arrived back from Rinella yesterday! I went with my twin sister, my best friend (15), my brother (12) and my mum. What can i say? it was so great. The whole week was brilliant, the weather was fantastic, and the great thing was that the hotel wasnt busy! We were there for their last week, and so people were just leaving and not arriving. I didnt mind, you didn't have to queue for food and you could book the Taverna an hour before you wanted to eat there.
If you're a cat hater, i wouldn't go to this hotel, as there are lots of stray cats which scrounge from the bins, but i didnt have a problem with these- most of them are very friendly. The hotel never gets boring, there is always something to be doing, going on a banana boat, or playing darts with one of the animation team! I must agree with some other comments, its not a 5* hotel, the food is lovely, and the facilitlies are great, the only downside are the rooms. They are basic, but if your like me and just want a bed to sleep in they're fine. The animation team were great, always smiling and happy.
I must agree the ladies at reception were rude, blunt and ignorant- i didn't like them at all!
I really enjoyed staying here, i would like to go again, but maybe in the summer, as there would be more people and it would be different. Overall it was a superb holiday, and i strongly recommend it.
A good hotel for families and singlies alike

We were among the first 2005 visitors to this hotel, one or two parts were not open yet, (the taverna), the waterslide, but these were being readied whilst we were there. All rooms had Aircon, but we upgraded to a VIP oom with an amazing sea view. The pool area was great with a small kids pool and bar/snack area, there was anther pool plus the aforementioned slide area, but we did not try that one. There is enough for kids to do, one bonus being they will not always be scrounging drinks or ice creams as they get ther own. Entertainment was ok for adults, a little hought is needed on some of the activities, bt the staff were fun, friendly and not too pushy, later in the season I am sure things will be been better, with sports to burn off the food and booze if you are that way inclined.
Drinks were free until midnight, with a club straight over the road, but I liked the midnight idea, if you wanted more, you paid, but the main attraction was that it stopped the hotel being noisy all night.
The layout and roomsize was good and most rooms seemed to be in small clusters rather than a dirty great big block like some hotels.
The beach was clean with loads of beds and some free watersports.
The food was great apart from the chinese restaurant where the meal was very salty for all of our party., that is a minor gripe really and the manager was, to be fair, trying to get things right during this opening week.
Some people moan about the food, Why? there was a huge choice, you could have soup, salad, kebab meat, fish, varius other meat combinations local dishes and DIY Pasta (you opick what you would lke and the chefcooked it there and then, breakfast was the same, DIY omlette, or a cooked breakfast, fuit, continetal brekkie, whatever you would expect I think and as good as any 5 star i have been in, good Packed lunches, oh and dont forget, we could not even go into the taverna. lots of choice.
Now for the gripes, whilst this otel was definately a mediterranian 5 star (and as good as many other 4/5 stars I have been in) little things such as a little plaster being needed in a bathroom and one couple swapping rooms becauseof exposed wires were annoying, but easily rectified by the management, I do wonder why the managers did not check all rooms more closely (read a book on continuous improvement guys eh) before allowing guests in, but apart from that they were cleaned well and roomy y greek standards. Would I go back, YES but dont travel with SUNSTAR (teletext) as their flight arrangement were poor, luckily for SunStar the hotel solved the problems the travel company dumped on their guests. other operators do use this otle, try them rather than sunstar
The evil cats
by A TripAdvisor Member
I am also 15, and I forgot to comment on those cats in my last review. I went to Rinella in October 2004 and was attacked outside the
main restraunt by a cat when eating chicken. What I'm trying to say is: if you are going to eat chicken, make sure you eat it inside. This was only one cat however, I'm sure the rest of the cats were quite nice- but if you are a bit paranoid, or you are having some kind of severe nervous breakdown, then you won't like the way they stare at you.
But don't let those damned cats put you off, it's a great place- a good laugh.
I'll have to persuade my parents to go again this October- the animation team is different apart from Magda, Alex and Nemo- but I look forward to seeing them again!
