Accommodation Lake Kournas

by sueshearer

Hi,

We visited Lake Kournas last year for a day trip and would like to stay there for a few days this June.

Does anybody know if any of the tavernas at the lake have rooms available?

If they don't, any other suggestions would be most welcome.

Many thanks.

Hi,
this lake is a very beautiful place, no wonder you want to go back again. You can try the following for your accomodation:

Hi, I imagine there will be lots of availability this year. You could also stay in either Geourgoupolis or Exopoli. Why not email a few places or google kournas and you should get a few names.

Museums

by AndyRG

The best of them are in -or around- Irakleio. This statue is called "snake goddess", it comes from the palace of Knossos and it is housed at the Archaeological Museum of this city (it has 20 rooms).
There are also many other different museums - for example, one about El Greco in Fodele or another about... homo sapiens in Nomos Lasithiou.

Say it in Greek!!!

by Jawnuta

If you really want local people to be nice to you and give you little more than you can get for your Euro - SAY IT IN GREEK!!!
Say " YA-sass " when you want to say Hello.
"pa-ra-ka-LO" when you want to say Please.
"ef-kha-ree-STO" to say Thank you.
"seeg-NO-meen" to say Excuse me.
Say "ka-lee-MEH-ra" to your host if you manage to get up before 9 am :-) if you like to sleep long at least say "ka-lee-SPHE-ra" (good morning and good afternoon)

Everything else you can say in your language.
OH! And remember, don't complain about your food!!! Eat it!!! It is good for you!!!
and don't try to go inside of the church or monastyr wearing mini skirt and tiny tank top. Cover up for a moment!!!

Don't forget to take

by chiara76

backpack cap, shorts, good shoes, sandals, sunglasses, the medicaments, especially when you are allergic to sun like me for example,
something against diarrohea if your stomach is sensitive films for the camera or flash memory,
the batteries for your cameras,
tripod, sun blocker (high numbers especially in you go there in July and August),

Moni Gouvernetou trail

by bpwillet

If you are visiting Moni Gouvernetou, and you have some time, you may want to take a stroll around the surrounding area. There is a great view of the northern coast of the Akrotiri penninsula. The trail winds down to a few more monastaries and swimming spots.
