Due to the regulations that are now set up by the Greek government, you cant really go wrong once you get to an island and you have nowhere to stay - when you dock at the ferry, you will see dozens of people trying to offer you the 'very best deal in town' for a room - it pays to haggle a little. My very favourite place in Ios is a hotel called Marco's - my friend Ian runs the place and it is very relaxing and cool. No idea of price - never paid (but I do the breakfasts once in a while)
Really nice gardens and if he's full, he'll ring round for you. Theme: Bed and Breakfast

The quality of most Greek hotels is not particularly high. Plumbing especially seems to be a problem. If you are going in the high season (summer), make sure you have definite reservations. Don't consider a voucher anywhere in Greece (hotel, ship, or air transport) sufficient to secure your reservation—especially during high season. Only a 'confirmed' document provides some assurance during the most popular tourist months. The government classifies hotels into six categories, depending mostly on size and amenities. L is for Luxury, with the remaining A to E designates granted in descending order of quality. Unfortunately, the listings are done locally, and may not be consistent between different locales. You can rent rooms in Greek houses, which are homey, though not easy to locate. If you have a large family or group, consider renting a villa, an apartment, or a house. Theme: Other

Cheap accommodation... by Jimmytravel Travel by night on the longest boat rides, saves some Drax and there is usually a party to attend, anyway. Theme: OtherComparison: least expensiveDirections: Take the overnight boat from Piraeus to Paros, get drunk, meet people and save at least one nights accomodation.

I'm not really sure how the price compares to other places. We paid 6000Dr for a double room in July 1996, and we thought that was pretty reasonable at the time. It's not a luxury hotel or anything, but the rooms are clean and tidy. Good value for the money, I'd say. And the owner was nice too.
We had a small, basic room with a private bathroom, and there was a little patio outside with tables and chairs. From here, we had awesome views of the harbour (maybe I'll post a picture of it someday). Because Ios is so hilly, the pension is laid out in multi-levels, so we didn't have any neighbours and therefore felt as if we had the place to ourselves. Theme: Pension/GuesthouseComparison: about averageDirections: Well, I'm not sure it's a 'pension', but it's not a hostel and it wouldn't pass for a hotel. It's located in Ios village, but don't ask for an address, they don't exist! Should be easy enough to find

There's a lot of types of accomodation in Greece. You can choose from luxurious hotel to hostels and camp sites. The best type of accomodation in Greece are private pensions with a great atmosphere and small hotels located on the beaches. Theme: Other

by Angjel Lodging Recommendation: Greece is no longer dirt cheap (Compare to 1979). A rock-bottom daily budget would be US$15 a day which would mean hitching, staying in youth hostels or camping, staying away from bars, and only occasionally eating in restaurants or taking ferries. Allow at least US$30 per day if you want your own room and plan to eat out regularly as well as travelling about and seeing the sights. You will still need to do a fair bit of self-catering. If you really want a holiday -comfortable rooms and restaurants all the way -you will need closer to US$45 per day.
