Hotel Gabriel, Salamina Greece: Worst hotel ever! Salamina, Greece
by Nunnuli
The good thing about the hotel was that it was quite clean (except the details I describe below) and by the sea. The breakfast included 3 pieces of bread, butter and marmelade with coffee or tea. The first morning I had to wait for my breakfast for 45 minutes, because the cleaning lady (who seemed to be the only staff member in the hotel at that time) didn't understand what I wanted. She spoke only greek, which I don't speak. I showed her with hands what I wanted and even with a fork and knife, but she didn't seem to understand that I want to eat. I got a cup of coffee though... cold! Other mornings were faster. One day I went to the restaurant area to eat and after about 30 minutes of waiting for service, I found out that they didn't have a written menu. I then asked to have a beer, bread, tsatsiki, some potatoes, meat and little bit of salad (tomato or something) with feta. I waited 15 minutes for the beer. Asked for it a few times and every time they said: "oh yes, it's coming". Let me remind you that there was about 40 degrees celsius and I was very thirsty. I got my beer after 45 min of waiting and the food came quite fast after that. I got little plates of everything except the meet. The meet came later.. and it was two tiny burger kind of pieces of meet with no taste what so ever. I ate about one third of everything and got the bill... 21,50 euros! After having a discussion about the price they dropped 2,50 off of it. Still.. I had to pay 19 euros for a meal of total garbage. The only good thing was the beer, bread and tsatsiki. I stayed in the hotel for 5 nights and only once (the fourth day) the garbage in the room was emptied and the bed done. Let me remind you that in Salamina, you have to throw the used toilet paper in the garbage can too. We were two girlfriends staying in the same room and we slept in a double bed. We had only one sheet as a blanket in the bed and after the only cleaning, we had only one towel in the room. I would never ever recommend this hotel to anyone and even though I will be travelling to Salamina again because of friends I have there, I will never stay in this hotel myself either. I have travelled a lot and stayed in many types of hotels but never have I had service this bad or food this expensive comparing to the quality of it. The stay in the hotel cost 50 euros per night per room, so it wasn't by far even the cheapest hotel I've been in.
