Hotel Gabriel, Salamina Greece: Worst hotel ever! Salamina, Greece

by Nunnuli

The good thing about the hotel was that it was quite clean (except the details I describe below) and by the sea. The breakfast included 3 pieces of bread, butter and marmelade with coffee or tea. The first morning I had to wait for my breakfast for 45 minutes, because the cleaning lady (who seemed to be the only staff member in the hotel at that time) didn't understand what I wanted. She spoke only greek, which I don't speak. I showed her with hands what I wanted and even with a fork and knife, but she didn't seem to understand that I want to eat. I got a cup of coffee though... cold! Other mornings were faster. One day I went to the restaurant area to eat and after about 30 minutes of waiting for service, I found out that they didn't have a written menu. I then asked to have a beer, bread, tsatsiki, some potatoes, meat and little bit of salad (tomato or something) with feta. I waited 15 minutes for the beer. Asked for it a few times and every time they said: "oh yes, it's coming". Let me remind you that there was about 40 degrees celsius and I was very thirsty. I got my beer after 45 min of waiting and the food came quite fast after that. I got little plates of everything except the meet. The meet came later.. and it was two tiny burger kind of pieces of meet with no taste what so ever. I ate about one third of everything and got the bill... 21,50 euros! After having a discussion about the price they dropped 2,50 off of it. Still.. I had to pay 19 euros for a meal of total garbage. The only good thing was the beer, bread and tsatsiki. I stayed in the hotel for 5 nights and only once (the fourth day) the garbage in the room was emptied and the bed done. Let me remind you that in Salamina, you have to throw the used toilet paper in the garbage can too. We were two girlfriends staying in the same room and we slept in a double bed. We had only one sheet as a blanket in the bed and after the only cleaning, we had only one towel in the room. I would never ever recommend this hotel to anyone and even though I will be travelling to Salamina again because of friends I have there, I will never stay in this hotel myself either. I have travelled a lot and stayed in many types of hotels but never have I had service this bad or food this expensive comparing to the quality of it. The stay in the hotel cost 50 euros per night per room, so it wasn't by far even the cheapest hotel I've been in.

Hermes Hotel: Fabulous Hotel near Plaka

by ozpaul

Centrally located to Plaka and Syntagma Square - yet this hotel is very quiet. Wonderful restaurants close by. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Staff are attentive and helpful.

Ask for a room with a balcony. Great place to have a beer in the afternoon.

Hotel Acrogiali: A wonderful place to stay in Mykonos

by travellingtechie

Hotel Acrogiali is about 10 minutes drive from the sea port of Mykonos. They arranged for pick up form the port although I had forgotten to mail them before arriving. That made the first impression on me that these guys meant business and were pretty good at hospitality.
Throughout my stay they maintained and enhanced that impression. The staff was very friendly and helpful. When we asked for a scooter rental they arranged it and there was a guy to pick us up from the rental company within 10 minutes.
Coming to the hotel and the rooms....this was by far my best experience with any hotel in all the places I have visited in Europe. The hotel has a beach front with free umbrellas and beds for guests. The buffet breakfast is served aplenty. The rooms are neat, clean, spacious and very comfortable. There is free Wifi internet access all over the hotel, although the signal can be weak in some places. There is also a computer in the lobby where one can access the net. The food in the restaurant is very nice too and varied....and much cheaper than back in the town!
I can go on lengths praising the place and the people but simply saying, they are very helpful and the hotel has the best beach in Mykonos...better than the much advertised Paradise and Super Paradise! I will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking forward for a peaceful holiday.

Aegeon Hotel; , Skal Kalloni; Lesbos, Greece: Tranquil. A real gem

by wiseowls

The Aegeon Hotel in Skala Kalloni is a real gem. In a glorious peaceful rural location yet only 6 minutes walk to the sandy beach and 13 minutes walk to the Town Square where you will find a number of traditional Greek tavernas. You are treated as friend rather than a guest by the staff and it makes you feel part of the family. The rooms are simple furnished, clean and with air conditioning. a cold buffet breakfast is taken on the terrace and there is a small swimming pool with free sunbeds. You can hire a safe deposit and a bicycle from reception. The pool side bar which open in the evenings has comfortable seating and is a great place to meet other guests in a low key and friendly atmosphere.A mixture of American, English, Dutch and German guests. Suitable for couples rather than families who appreciate a get away from it all holiday in a relaxed atmosphere.

Absolute peace and quite

Athens Crowne Plaza City Center

by JREllison

We were pre-booked woth an early morning check in, got to the hotel at about 9:30 and they rushed us through check in and we were in the room in about 5 minutes. About 5 minutes later there was a knock on the door and there was a hostage with a large chilled fruit platter and bottled water.

We were at the hotel for four nights then checked out for a overnight tour. When we returned we got the same great treatment.

Our standard room (1 Queen sized bed) was less than $120 per night.

Crowne Plaza Athens City Centre hotel is situated in the heart of Athens, very close to the historical sites of Athens, only 10 min. from Acropolis, the traditional Plaka area (old town) and Syntagma (Constitution) square.

ORFEAS Kalambaka,: Hotel near Meteora

by JREllison

We spent a night in Kalambaka before visiting the monestaries of Meteora. The Hotel Orfeas is servicable, maybe even a little bit more than you would expect from a buget hotel. In room bathroom was clean and there was plenty of hot water. My only complaint was that the beds are very hard!

SartiVista B&B: Greece - off the beaten path

by wndrwmn1973

My now-husband and I stayed here as a pre-honeymoon last summer and were blown away by the amazing experience. The house is up on a hill, with a view you can never tire of, and the surrounding beaches are stunning and relatively empty. The breakfasts are outside, under the pergola, and include the hosts' free-range eggs, homemade jam, etc. After the bustle and expense of Rome, this area and B&B was exactly what we were looking for.

The views of the the village of Sarti and the holy Mt. Athos over the clear blue water. Hot tub on the hill. Handmade quilts on the beds. Amazing breakfasts. Kayaks for rent.
