This was our first visit to Zante. We did not and were not warned that you are an outsider as a Brit if you do not wear a football shirt and sit a football bar from midday to closing time everyday watching football!! This is reason 1. why we will not be returning. When being dropped off at our hotel (Dennys Inn Kalamaki) I noticed thread bare furniture in the bar/reception/lounge and on the walls various top hotel awards for 2002-2004, why none since? This was a bed and breakfast accomodation and the breakfast was the usual bread/boiled eggs/fruit/ham/cheese/cereal/toast/tea and coffee. For most of the week there were a few (with football shirts-male and female) who would grace the bar until the closing time of 2am. BUT..............do not be fooled, the hotel has a free b.b.q and entertainment in the form of karioke on a Saturday night 9pm to 1am! Remembering that most flights leave on Sunday! Also please ensure your accomodation is nowere near the pool bar/reception area, ours was directly above!!!!!!!! NOTE the music starts at 9pm and goes on until the people there want it to stop. In this case 2.30am Sunday when we have to be up at 6.30am to ready ourselves for depature. This is reason " for not returning under any circumstances. Superb restuarants with some of the best Greek food we have ever sampled!! (5th greek island visited) and with it superb friendly service, even on Monday 18th September 2006 at 7pm through the second earth tremor in 3 days! Other qualities include superb island coach trip /vineyard,winery visit and tasting/amazing scenery/ even when looking down 450ft to the famous ship wreck on the beach!
