Most fantastic Hotel on the island!!!!
For my hubbies birthday I wanted to take him somewhere special and after reading some of the fantastic reviews I decided on Zante......Already upon arrival we were taken by the more than friendly welcome of Luisa who had come to pick us up from the airport. The Venus hotel is an absolutely fantastic place, very clean and of a much higher standard than the accredited 3 stars!!!! But apart from the stylish and beautiful interior what made our stay special is the warm welcome and feel of this hotel and its owners and staff.....We have not seen anyone who wasnt smiling and happy to help, the atmosphere was very friendly and it was easy to unwind and relax with so many nice people around - even the staff and the cleaners were so friendly and it felt wonderful to be there! We had booked directly with Nick of the Venus hotel and the service was really extraordinary! We were sad when our holiday came to an end but being taken back to the airport by George was the highlight of the day!!!!! Thanks to everyone at the Venus hotel, we had a wonderful time and I can understand why your guests keep coming back again and again (some come twice or three times a year already for 10 years!!!!)
Britta and collin
Welcoming, comfortable and friendly. What else can you ask for!
My husband and I have visited this hotel for the past two years each time in May. We have booked both direct and via local travel agent.
This was the first hotel we had booked abroad for a number of years as we had in past preferred to stay in self catering accomodation via vintage travel uk., and our first visit to Greece. We were both very pleasantly surprised at the standard of this hotel and have enjoyed our visits so much we are returning for our third visit this time with other older members of our family.
We find the venus hotel good standard accommodation which is relaxing and friendly. There are good places to eat nearby. With a lovely beach to stroll along, and if your lucky catch a glimpse of the turtles (a truly amazing sight).
Kalamaki airport however is an experience to be had, hopefully for not more than a couple of hours. ( you can always laugh about it later)! but would never put us off visiting this island.
Loved the Bingo!
Just came back from a weeks stay at Hotel Venus. We had a absolutely fantastic time. This is our fifth stay at the hotel and plan to return later this year.
This hotel has all round entertainment from the young to the old, from singles to couples!
The staff are superb and we could not wish for a better holiday. The facilities are in excellent condition and we had a fantastic time.
Many thanks to everyone at the hotel for making our stay a one to remeber!
Lovely Relaxing Hotel
I have just come back from a week at the Venus. I booked it because of the TripAdvisor comments. Book direct with Nick the owner - it is so easy and much cheaper. As a direct customer you get free airconditioning, fridge and safety deposit box. You also get 10% of everything you buy in the hotel. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and paid a little extra for the room - it was decorated well and so clean and tidy. All rooms have a balcony and the hotel is well placed for the 'Turtle' Beach a short stroll away and the main strip of tavernas, shops and bars. Nick the hotel owner picks you up from the airport and drops you back off again. It is only 5 minutes from the airport and you will not notice the planes. The food served in the Venus Cafe is fantastic and such an array and a very good price. The cocktails are great at 3 euros each too. We had such a relaxing holiday sitting around the pool, by the beach and we hired a car to see the island. We found a boat trip on our travels in our hire car to see the BLUE CAVES - it was only 10 euros each and we had a great time on the boat. Better than paying the holiday companies 30 euros for the same thing. Our boat was small so we could actually get right into the caves. The holiday companies boats are too big to get anywhere close. The whole island was so clean. Our hotel was mainly couples but there were young families there too and all the children were enjoying themselves in the pool but were certainly not a nuisance. There was entertainment at the hotel on some nights and it was nice that the owner Nick does not push this - the quiz night was free and for fun and the Greek Night was a resounding success. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing, stress free holiday.
Another Fab Stay at Hotel Venus
We had a 2 week stay from 1st June to 15th June and as usual received 1st class treatment from the staff, we were welcomed like family and nothing is ever too much trouble. Everywhere you go in the hotel you a greeted with a friendly smile and hello. The hotal has undergone a refurb in the last couple of years to bring the hotel up to date. We booked direct with the hotel which i highly recommend as you get the fridge, safe and aircon included in your price. Rooms are cleaned daily. There is Entertainment most nights, including Greek Night, Belly Dancer, Quiz Night, Karaoke, Live singer and fancy dress night. I am missing the place so much already and have now been home a week, i will be back next year. Thank you to all staff at Hotal Venus in particular Nick, Spiro, Donna, Danny for a fantastic visit x
Clean, comfortable hotel in excellent location
My husband and I stayed at The Venus for one week this month. First impression was vey good, the hotel was clean, and the reception staff friendly.
The room was a little cramped, but was clean and had everything we needed, including a bath, which you dont often see in Greece. There was plenty hot water, and the shower was powerful. Unfortunately the pillows were like rocks, I used a folded up blanket instead. There was plenty wardrobe space, with enough hangers for all our clothes. I was slightly disappointed that the fridge/safety deposit box/air conn all cost extra, but were free had you booked direct with the hotel - we tried that but there was no availability, so we went through an operator - if you do this expect to pay 30 euro per week for the fridge, and 50 euro per week for the air conn.
The hotel was well situated approx 300m from the main street, where there was any amount of tavernas, restaurants and bars, and it was about 10 minutes walk from the beach.
The pool was lovely, very clean, with plenty sun loungers to go around, even though some Brits have turned rather Germanic in their behaviour and were going down early to put towel on the beds!! A cushion for the loungers cost 1.5 euro each per day. Food from the poolside snack bar was lovely, we didnt use the hotel breakfast buffet as the full English at the pool was the best!!
Entertainment was provided most nights, including kareoke, a singer, and a 70s disco, and was always over by midnight to avoid disturbing guests with noise.
We would reommend this hotel, and would go back again ourselves in the future.
The best hotel we have ever stayed in!!!!!!!
We have not long returned from the best holiday we have ever had and it was at the hotel venus. This hotel is very clean and modern. It has excellent facilities and the pool side snack bar is gorgeous! All of the staff are very warm and welcoming. The staff are so polite, friendly and helpful that they are a credit to the hotel. The breakfast is continental style and it is always fresh. The pool is clean and well maintained and there are always sun loungers available no matter what the time of day.
Kalamaki itself is a very pleasnt resort with loads of nice bars and restaurants. If you like traditional greek tavernas turn left out of the hotel, towards the beach and there is a lovely little greek taverna (I forget the name but it is the first one you come to!). The beach in Kalamaki is protected due to the turtles nesting so is closed from 7pm. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to have a wonderful time. We booked through an agent but would definitely book direct next year as you get the air con, fridge and safe included in the price. We'll see you next year!
this hotel was very nice. bed and breakfast, the breakfast wasnt up to much. the rooms were compact but alright. the food at the pool bar was very good as was the drinks. the pool its self was fantastic, big, clean and had plenty of sunloungers. kalamaki was a lovely place to stay as it was quiter than laganus, the shops were good and the tavernas were nice.
Expectations not met.
We booked this hotel based on the many positive TA reviews, but, I guess, inevitably with expectations so highly built up, we were a little disappointed. Like others, we too had tried to book direct to gain the various free facilities and discounts, but the hotel was full. That said, we then booked for exactly the same dates through a tour operator. Although it’s obviously the hotel’s chosen marketing strategy, it did feel rather discriminatory to have to pay a combined total of 110 euros within the first few minutes of arrival for fridge, aircon and safe for just one week (all free to direct clients). That is quite some premium, equating to almost 12% add-on to our original overall hotel/airfare/taxi transfer costs! There is also a charge of 1.50 a day for a sunbed cushion. Direct customers get 10% off all hotel purchases and a free bottle of wine on departure!
We found the hotel rather too ‘British’; karaoke, bingo and a cheesy 70s fancy dress night were not what we went to Zante for. The Greek night entertainment just about qualified to be called such, with just 3 young dancers whose main intent seemed to be getting conga-style lines snaking though all the tables. What a contrast to a similar night last year in Kefalonia, which had fire performers, explanations about dancing folklore etc, before any audience participation.
The combined effect of the continual smell of fried/grilled cooking from the food counter immediately adjacent to the rather cramped feel of the pool/decking area and hotel entrance, plus rather too boisterous ball games in the pool regularly drove us to use the facilities of other surrounding hotels and bars.
Having to eat breakfast inside what felt like a ‘holiday inn’ corporate dining room, (because of the “no food or utensils to be taken outside” notices) was frustrating, especially when there were ample tables/chairs to allow this – and at a time when the food counter wasn’t open to generate frying smells!
Staff were generally helpful, and quick to replace a broken kettle, although room cleaning was a little inconsistent in terms of timing and thoroughness. On one occasion, hearing cleaners shouting to each other before 8am (when we had a late night) was annoying.
The hotel is in a reasonable location, sufficiently far off the main strip to avoid noise, but near enough to walk to, as was the beach. That said, other late partying guests returning to the hotel often showed little regard for those who went to bed prior to midnight, as we were woken several times by such noise. This may have been dependant on where one’s room was – there’s a definite room allocation for direct customers.
On checkout, we were quoted a rather steep 30 euros to keep our room for just 4 extra hours (direct guests get this included), so chose the use of a courtesy room instead for free.
Lots of people obviously like this hotel, but several guests we chatted to felt similarly to what we have expressed above, so I guess it’s all down to personal preference. If you want a hotel that’s completely British and could be anywhere in the sunny parts of Europe, then you’ll probably be ok here, but if you want to feel you’re in Greece, there are better options.
