Kassandra Bay Hotel: Kriopigi

The Kassandra Bay is situated mid way up (or should that be down?) a steepish hill in Kriopigi - and while not sold as a 'health farm', you'll certainly keeps your calfs in trim with frequent jaunts up to the local town or down to the beach.

While the room we stopped in was pretty basic - a couple of double beds, balcony and very small bathroom , the hotel itself is well kept and the staff were friendly, helpful and relaxed, which is always a bonus.

Meal times were passable, with a smallish uncomplicated selection of food, including, fortunately - chips and salad - there were also a couple of BBQs, which we didn't go to but were ok according to reports.

During the day, the hotels nice pool is the focal point, with the plentiful deck chairs freely available and, as it's a smallish friendly hotel, allows everyone to have a general chat about the local sights. A smaller paddling pool also provides a convenient location for the kids to play.

Night times are catered for quite well at the hotel - with different activities most nights of the week. Centered on the bar area, which is next to and also overlooks the well lit pool area, there are a couple of BBQ's, a Greek night and general 'party' nights. The staff really go out of their way to ensure that the nights are memorable and fun.

The only downside we ran into was the music loudness. As we also had our two year old daughter, Amber, with us, we ended up being in our room well before the bar closed and the music stopped in the early morning. In fairness though, it didn't help that our room was pretty close to the bar, and next to the main entrance also (we had a particularily loud group of partying brummie girls staying in the hotel at the time!! heh.)

The hotel is within 500m of the beach, but it's still a reasonable trek as the hill is so steep - it is worth it though, with crystal clear blue water and clean sand. There's also a nice bar at the bottom of the road which overlooks the sea and serves good basic food (and more importantly ice-cold lager!)

Unique Quality: Friendly and relaxed, with a good pool area and night time entertainment.

The Sunday greek night was especially memorable.
