More about Louis Zante Beach Hotel
This hotel is not even 1 star, after checking in at the hotel went up to the room to have a look the wall was crumbling and falling down, the beds were full of hairs it looked like it hadent been cleaned in weeks.
after complaining to the thomas cook rep all she said was "well you saw the hotel in the brochure"
i could sit in a pig troff for days with a big smile on my face eating pig swill, how could i stand it you say, because ive eaten at the louis zante beach hotel.
the all inclusive food and drink is the worst i have ever tried
meat on the bone, try fat on the bone.
do not stay here if you like a good standard of hotel
Very Good Hotel and Location!!!
Stayed at the Louis Zante Beach hotel last year as a suprise holiday from my lovely girlfriend! We stayed in September and enjoyed it so much, we came back this year for 2 weeks. I must conffess, as there is a lot of negativity regarding the dogs! They are very friendly, and are only after a bit of food and water! They only come on the beach later on at around 5.50-6pm when the weather is milder! Lets be fair, turtles are animals too, and nobody complains about them! Dont let it put you off, we thought it was a bonus as we are animal lovers!!! The hotel is set on the best beach on the island, with fantastic views of turtle island, Gerakas and Keri. The isolated beachside blocks are fantastic where we stayed both times. The water is clean and warm! We hired a speedboat for the day and drove out to the Keri coast where we anchored the boat in an isolated cove with crystal clear water, and went swimming!! Awesome!! The food was a lot nicer last year, maybe because it was quieter and they had more time to think about their selection, but to be honest the only downfall this year was the that the food was not as good as the previous year!! But, there are plenty of places to wine and dine in laganas, a five minute walk!! Do not be put off by bad reviews, make the most of the stay, go turtle spotting, absorb the tranquility of the beachside location! I would recommend September as the best time to stay for relaxing, as it is a lot quieter and more relaxing! Ideal for a romantic getaway. May and june are the best time to see Caretta Caretta, where as July/August are the worst! Laganas is quite a busy resort, but the hotel is situated at the end of the resort towards Kalamaki.
loved it, loved it ,loved it
My boyfriend and i have just returned from two weeks at the Zante beach and we both loved it.
We have not been to europe on holiday in ten years and are used to going much further afield but we were not dissapointed.
The rooms are big enough for what you need and are always spotless.
I have read reviews on here that say the food is not up to much but in the two weeks we were there i always found something to eat with the choice of salad every day for lunch and dinner fresh fruit, meat dishes, pasta, desserts, again for lunch and dinner and for breakfast you get all the norm eggs, toast, and although the bacon and sausages are not the same as over here they are there so if you don't find anything to eat you are fussy.
the pool is a bit small but hey you have the sea so it's not much of a problem oh and it was very cold (the pool not the sea).
the animation team are great hello to adam, mimi, lotta, mamado thanks for entertaining us i played water polo did water aerobics morning gym which is a bit like yoga really and even volleyball.
the evening entertainment was ok the shows the animators put on are quite funny sometimes and get up and dance with them when they do the club dance it's good fun especially when you have had a drink or three.
We also met a great couple of friends out there too and that makes a great holiday even better.
We had a earthquake whilst we were there wierd feeling but hey it's normal out there and it in no way spoiled our holiday go have fun and relax.
ok, but not the best all inclusice
had a great holiday, weather fanstatic. Hotel location superb, out of town which is 10min walk down the beach. Rooms comfortable, facilities good. All inclusive not as good as others have experienced, limited where & when you can eat, although food very good, no round pool snack bar only sandwiches available from bar. Plenty of daytime activities. Pool very nice & clean. Onsite shop well stocked but very very expensive, friends paid 14euro for lilo, we paid 4euro from supermarket down beach.
overall a food holiday but would not return to this hotel!
Second holiday at this hotel
Just back from a week at this hotel, went last year and enjoyed it so much we just had to go back.
Hotel is in a lovely setting right on the beach about 10 minutes from the town. The standard of food is generally excellent, and varied. Always includes a pasta dish, three meat dishes, salads, one fish dish, something for everyone.
One and only gripe is the on site shop, nothing appears to be priced apart from newspapers, and they seem to charge what they like. I wanted to purchase some goggles for my son, and when I enquired how much was told 12 euro's, when i greeted this with "How much ?" I was then told 10 euro's, so I walked away. Just outside the hotel via the beach is a supermarket by the river bed I got the same pair of goggles from them for less than 5 euro's.
Apart from that its a great place to relax and chill out with the family.
Was not impressed by the room
The hotel rooms are very basic. Not the place to go if youre looking for a luxury hotel. We had booked a sea-view on a high level but we were given a ground floor room back from the sea. We made a call to our travel rep and we were moved. Another negative was the packs of stray dogs. They didnt usually cause much trouble but on one occassion that started fighting and it was very scary, they were right beside a group of us and a little girl started crying and I was very scared aswell. Another negative was the all-inclusive bar which was only all-inclusive up to 12 o'clock, which was not on the web-site or on any of the hotel information. The plus point was the food, it was very good and we ate there most nights.
All in all, we were disappointed with the standard of the hotel ansd would have considered it no more than a 3 star hotel.
If you have stayed at the full range of hotels,2,3,4&5star, you will know that a 4* in Greece is really only 3*. The rooms are very nice and cleaned well. The food is good with a good veriety. Could be a bit hotter. The grounds are well kept and the pool area is nice and kept clean.(get your towels out before the Germans). It has a lovely beach, but you have to pay for sun beds there. You can walk for miles along it. The thing that really spoilt it for me was the wild dogs roaming the hotel and grounds. They did not attack anybody but they made me feel uncomfortable. ( Yes i am not a dog lover). There are some nice restaurants in the local town of Laganos. Out the hotel gate and turn left, up to 20mins walk.
Charming and chilled
Checked trip adviser prior to booking and we had some minor concerns about the dogs, food and general decor. We found the comments very helful. With this in mind we have focused on the bits that weren't quite right. That said we had one on the best holidays we've ever had and we are writting this totally miserable having returned home.
Dogs. Yes there are small numbers dogs roaming about and they are cute. Cuteness appart, our experience was to leave them alone and they left us alone. If we had have stroked them or encouraged them things could have been different. We may have had difficulty getting rid of them.
Food. We are very particular in our tastes and our expectations. There were occasions when the food wasn't that hot, plates cold etc. The breakfast good but wasn't fantastic. The fresh orange juice wasn't fresh. The salads were great. The fish dishes yummy, but not when fried. Meat plentiful and varied. The veg was fresh and tasty. The sweets were ok, lots made with a strange creamy substance, the ice cream made up for it. The cheese board was unfortunately disappointing as was the quality of the coffee from the coffee machine. But appart from that we have steadly stuffed our faces for an entire week!
The red wine quaffable but the cocktails were an experience. Many ingredients were changed. Why? We do not know! There was no cream in the Pina Colada's and only naff squirty stuff on the Irish coffee's.
The general decor. When we arrived at the hotel our first impressions were "oh dear." The hotel is deffinately not 4 star. We were escorted to our room and we were very pleasantly surprised. Not only by the location on the beach front but also its lay out and overall cleanliness. Yes there is a tiredness about room furnishings and hopefully this will be addressed now we have reached the end of the season. The cleaning staff were excellent.
The rest of the hotel has a certain charm. The main bar area is like a cross between an airport lounge and a scene from the Shining! It only needs a thoughtful lick of paint. We went off season and it was very quite at night with very limited entertainment at night. However, during the day the hotel takes on a life of it's own. It commands a great location, only metres away from the sea and the start of the turtle nature reserve.
The staff in the hotel were very good, attentive and polite, making our stay very welcoming.
This was the first all inclusive holiday we have had and felt that on the whole it was good value for money. So much so we are planning to go back next year!
A dogs life
My wife and I have just stayed for the last week of the season 2006 and I'd like to have my say. The rooms were fine as was the food. The staff were friendly and the pool area although a bit small (pool itself) was ok. It was our first time all inclusive and I was pleasently surprised so much so that I'd do it again. Now I've only given the mark 3 out of 5 because of one major problem and that is "Dogs". I quite like dogs but not packs of unwanted feral ones roaming around the hotel day and night. A guest was badly bitten on our first day when he foolishly tried to feed them. Apparently he didn't feed the "Alpha" dog first. The offending dog was sent to the "All incusive" in the sky! They can be a real problem and it should be the Islands responsibility to do something about them. Another factor that compounded the issue was the fact that each day another hotel closed up and more dogs would make their way to ours. Sort of a last resort if you like. We still enjoyed the holiday despite the dogs but if people stopped feeding them it could be better...
In Need of a Facelift
We travelled out on 19th Oct for one week from edinburgh and booked through the Travel Experts which was considerably cheaper than the normal tour operators.
We had read reviews about the hotel so we were not expecting the best. Overall the rooms were clean and adequate, towels changed daily. The quality of food was very good, always hot and fresh dishes put out regularly, and as in other Greek islands the choice of breads was great. Fresh salads and fruits always available, deserts were o.k. As for some comments about meats being on the bone well thats just the way most Med countries do it. Their beef dishes were certainly off the bone and very tender and there was always a speciality dish most nights.
The pool was small by modern standards and I would'nt like to be around it during the height of the season but the beach is at the bottom of the gardens.
Generally the resort was starting to close down at this time of year but there were sufficient shops open to get what we needed.
Yes the dogs did prove to be a problem as one adult guest was bitten, only after the event did the management put up a notice to say not to feed the dogs. If left alone they are not a problem but try telling that to our 6 year old.
Overall we had a good holiday, played tennis on the hotel courts, our son was entertained by the hotel run kids club, (thanks Mimi) but you have to remember that this is a 1970's hotel and still looks like it hence if it's going to compete in the 4 star holiday market it needs a serious face lift.
