The caves in the Matala rocks
by Skipka
As the rock itself is very easy to curve in, it was the best choice for people in the past to settle there. On the other side they used this holes in the rock as a buried place. Matala itself is full of such caves and they are in perfect condition, just time to time t here is some damaged. For those who like to explore such places they are empty :) just to let u know...

"Wonderful flora"
All those colorful flowers, ibiscus, cactuses etc.. simply for me it is like big "pot" garden but in bigger size. :) It is really strange to see plants outside in sizes u expect normal trees. And I have a little one in pot at home... really strange feeling tht forces me to move down to the South :)
"A room with a view"
Not just famous book but also the truth... we had really excellent view from our room and I really don't mind there was no sea on horizon...
"Hehe Look there is a cave"
This cave is in the Matala rocks on the way to the Red Beach and the last day of our stay Vlasto finally recognized it :)... BTW we were climbing near to it every day almsot 9 days :) I say he is a great observer of the surroundings ...
"Tree in front of my window"
This tree (I know it as Araucaria) was one of those I mentioned before..potted plant in my balcony at home and this summer thanks really dry and hot summer it died. ;( And then we went to Matala and I had two really big trees right in front of me. What a suprise ...
"Sunset..."
Thanks to the video camera there is sometimes possible to catch such a nice shot :) even if the Oscar (as we familliarly call the sun here) is still shining. Matala beach is like a big movie hall with the same programme every day. In the morning they play "THE SUNRISE" and in the evening "THE SUNSET". :) Thanks Lord there is no popcorn...
"A bit of history"
People, u won't believe but I really don't know anything of this history site here in Matala but probably it is going hand in hnd with the sites in Knossos and Festos because Festos is really close to Matala. Don't know... when I will find something about it, will add :) promise :)
"Oscar posing..."
One morning when I was going back from the schnorchel-swimming, Oscar just stopped me here and forced me to do shot of his face :) u know he likes to pose...
