A PLEASANT PLAKA STAY: ADONIS HOTEL

The location is brilliant - on the edge of the old, now touristy town, below the Acropolis and a short walk to Syntagma Square(Parliament and airport shuttle bus is).
Our room was small, and at the back, with no view(probably the old servants quarters after getting a cheaper price for 7 nights!). However we didn't mind as a few steps up led to roof-top for breakfast facing the Parthenon (the backside!!

It may seem strange at first, but the eggs in the basket are cold hard-boiled to eat with your cold toasts and/or rolls AND cake, a bit like a Madeira to have with your coffee and juice. We soon got used to it..and cereal. (For those of us on a budget the eggs were saved for later).

Unfortunatley we didn't have laundrey facilities so had to go to the Youth Hostel and use theirs - going price 8euro for 5 kilos!

I'd definitley stay in Plaka for the convenience of being able to walk and catch transport and still feel the old Athens cobblestones underfoot.

Being at the Adonis for 7 days we got to meet a few fellow travellers and on more than one occassion felt we were breakfasting in a Somerset Maughn short-story.....on the roof-top with the Acropolis as our neighbour, and Hephaistos Temple to the right....
