Hotel Rex: Small but convenient

Rooms in the Hotel Rex (42 of them) were small, but clean & comfortable . There is a small TV that sits on top of mini-bar. The bathroom shower stall had hand-held shower.

Most of the rooms have balconies (some have a view of bay , but mine looked out on the street with a glimpse of the bay at the end of it. ) They served a good breakfast.

It was about a 10 minute walk through town to harbor.

Family Hotel Latini: Nafplio hotel - good location

Very nice hotel - would recommend absolutely to everybody as it has a very good location, service and room for families with kid/kids. The hotel is located close to the port and on the very quiet street. It is a family run hotel which was built by the current owner's Grandfather. We liked our stay there - the hotel has a special character. Also it was a fantastic that we could rent the appartment consisted of two rooms - which is nice when you are travelling with kids. The appartment consisted fo two connected rooms - we had two bathrooms and couple of balconies. The only cons could be that the rooms are quite small and you alsways hitting the doors between rooms.

Byron.: Budget hotel

Stayed there for 4 nights in May, 08. It was OK.
I only wish the windows had curtains but looks like its a Greek custom not to have any. :)
As you can probably see from the picture, it`s a bit of a steep climb up to the entrance.

PRICE: In May 2008, we payed 60 euro per night for a room with double bed.
INTERNET: WiFi. Must buy a card from the receptionist. 5 euro=90 minutes, 10 euro=200 minutes, 20 euro=500 minutes.
BREAKFAST: Can be held on the terrace or inside. 6 euro per person. Includes croissants, bread, jam, butter, fresh orange juice and coffee/tea.

Loved eating at Karima Kastro restaurant located nearby (turn right when leaving the hotel and keep on walking on Papanikolaou Street) - cheaper than most, tasty food, great service.

Pension Isabo: Centrally located and reasonably priced

Location:
- Very centrally and conveniently located.
- 5 minutes easy (flat, no climbing upward hills!) walk from the public parking lot at harbor.

Access:
- Drive-A: Drive up to the Pension, drop off luggage then drive to the public parking lot at the harbor.
- Drive-B: We simply hauled our luggage to the hotel directly after parked the card at harbor.
It is a very straight forward simple walk (you will not get lost).

Reception:
- When we got to the Pension, the co-owner John was just about to leave the door. We told him our names, he just let us in, no form filled (nor passport copied). He lead us to our room (#1) upstairs, and showed us where things are.
- There is no person sitting there at the reception. Once you get your key, you are almost on your own. If you need any help and during the day, the owners run an underwear shop on the front of the building (Pension entrance is at the back), you will just need to find them there.

Room (#1):
General:
- There is no elevator but narrow wooden stairs.
- Room #1 is on the second floor with neat furniture.
- It has wood penal ceiling and is about 4.5x4.5 sq. meters including the small bathroom.
- It has a window and 3 balconies. When all the 3 is opened, the room is bright and airy with good air circulation and a good view of the streets/stores/people walking by. When the shutters of the 3 closed, the room is kept away from the street noise.
- There is no safe in the room. Owner John told us it is very safe in Nafplio, so we simply left our computer etc in the room (you will have 2 keys, for your own room and entrance of the building).
- The refrigerator in the room is convenient.
- TV has English channels.

Bed:
- It has a comfortable queen size bed, 2 sets of pillows (2 of them are down) provided plus a down comforter and a blanket in the armor.

Bathroom:
- It has only a shower unit with sliding doors (no bath tub) which is fine with us. You need to turn the heater on 15 minutes prior to shower. The temperature of the heater is set at about 80 C, so be careful when you first turn the hot water on in the shower.
- It has a pedestal sink with a small shelf above, not much room for toiletry.

Breakfast/Continental (included in the room rate):
- The breakfast is a self-service at the area in the hallway of the second floor (conveniently located outside of our room, and room #2).
- Graphical instruction is provided to customers on how to make Greek coffee.
- Cake, bread, and cookies, jams etc goodies, are available all day long.
- The public refrigerator has some fruit juice, and bottled drinking water.

Internet:
- Free wireless internet was never worked during our three days’ stay. The owner said there was some problem with the provider company.

Pension Ligeia: Psaromachals - nice place in Nafplio old town

we stayed here in May - quiet, right temperature. The pension has no breakfast,- and quite a few steps to go to buy something - but with a small fridge in the room and a kitchen where we could get water cooked for our morning coffe - this was quite ok.

Wonderful view over the Argolic GUlf from our balcony and outdoor just by the pension. Beatiful old buildings in the area. The people who owned and worked in the pension were very nice.

Pension Isabo: Lovely small hotel

I stayed for one night at Pension Isabo in March 2008 with my husband. Isabo was really beautiful and lovely place. It really felt like home away from home. This feeling was made with little details like candles and possibility to use small kitchenette whenever you wanted.
Isabo has a really nice location in the heart of old town of Nafplio. Parking places are scarce, but that's a small price to pay for such a unique place to stay.

Acronapflion Pensions: Venice in Greece

The breakfast was amazing. If you are from the east coast, strike up a conversation (slowly) about the new jersey. The general manager lived there for short time. his parrot wanders the hotel's check-in/breakfast area as well as the stairs and patio leading to the rooms. the breakfast was the best we had in our two weeks in greece: fresh unpasteurized orange juice, eggs, uncured bacon, toast and marmalade.

we stayed in the last room on the end of the hall, with a balcony. the room was beautifully furnished.

uri at dolphin travel helped us with all our hotels on the mainland. feel free to e-mail me for pictures of the room/hotel grounds.

Triton II: CAMPING AROUND NAFPLIO

Having had the oppertunity to check out various campgrounds around the Nafplio area, before actually putting up the tent, we found that the best place was the TRITON II. The service, the facilities, the amenities, all were great, as well as the general lay-out of the campground.
I can imagine that in the high summer season, it would be a rather noisy place, as it lies directly on the beach, (with the beach road running right in front of where the tents are set up... motorbikes, cars, etc), but for us now, during pre-season, it was perfect!
DO NOT get it mixed up with the campgound-next-door, which is called just plain TRITON!! (That place was average, and the tent area was far down the way and had too much gravel.)
There was another campground, called LEFKAS, further down along the coast, just after the village of Vivari, that was ALSO very nice. It has its own small beach, is set up in tiers among olive, pine, and eucalyptus trees, and gave the impression of being nice and shady in the summer. It was just a bit too quiet for us now... as I said, it was pre-season, and we wanted to be a bit closer to Nafplio.

TRITON II is incredibly well organized, has a GREAT, GREAT, taverna, and is VERY CLEAN!
I was impressed that every time I used some facility , or another, it had just been mopped AGAIN, the bins had been emptied yet AGAIN (and with the amount of people there at this time of year, they never managed to get even 1/8 full), and the lady whose job all this was ,was AlWAYS somewhere to be found nearby, busily making all tidy.
There was hot water in abundance, and the staff all friendly, and helpful.
The beach itself, nice and clean.

King Othon I: Enjoy Nafplio

There are two hotels King Othon. Both are in the centre of the old town. I have stayed twice in King Othon I. The hotel is in a classical building, "arhontiko", one of the eldest in the town.
The rooms are charming and the garden is lovely.

The rooms are nice and comfortable. Enjoy the breakfast in the garden, it is delightful.

Victoria Hotel: Hotel in Nafplio

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The rooms were a bit cramped but that could also be attributed to the fact that I was in a triple. The rooms had a balcony that offered a great view of the town and the Palamidi fortress. The breakfast was delicious and one of the few places at which we stayed where it was actually served to us (rather than self-serve).

Byron Hotel: Classy spot in the old town

The Byron hotel is located up a steep set of stairs in the old town of Nafplio. Its been extensively renovated and the rooms are simple but very pleasant. My room had a marvelous view over the rooftops of the old town. Breakfast was served on a flower strewn terrace with a sun-umbrella (which was needed). Rooms have aircon and the whole hotel has a classy feel that belies its reasonable price. And its only a hop, skip and Jump from all the sights of the town.

The attached picture is from the hotel website as I didn't have my camera with me and I loved the terrace so much I had to show it to you! This pic doesn't really do it justice though and it actually looked much bigger when you are lolling under the sun-umbrella on a lazy, hazy day :-)

The terrace, looking out over the roofs, having the spot where the first Prime Minister of Greece Kapodistrias was assasinated at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the hotel . . .

Hotel Galini: Think twice...

Hotel Galini is a 2-star hotel in Nafplio. Location is not bad, it is close to the old town, but the room looks very old, the bathroom either (we had no shower cabin...). Do not be surprised if you don't have a bulb in your reading lamp. Comparing this hotel to the others we have stayed at in Greece on 5 nights, this one was far the worst (while the prices were almost at the same level!). 50EUR w/o breakfast for a double (August 2005).
If it is late night, you can take it as it is ok for sleeping, but don't spend your whole holiday there!
