Aegina Island
by Kuznetsov_Sergey
Aegina lies in the centre of the Argosaronic Gulf at the distance about 28 km from Piraeus. When we were going to Poros by cruise ship Giorgis it was situated to the west of our starboard. I could watch its shores very attentively.
We were going back from Hydra Island when Aegina was to the east. So I could watch its opposite shores. Aegina is roughly triangular in shape, approximately 15 km from east to west and 10 km from north to south. An extinct volcano constitutes two thirds of Aegina.
The southern volcanic part of the island is rugged and mountainous, and largely barren. Its highest rise is the conical Mount Oros (more than 500 m) in the south, and the Panhellenian ridge stretches northward with narrow fertile valleys on either side.
The Greek Wildlife Hospital
by AndyRG
It is a nice place, where thousand of birds, basicly, and animals are treated (about 4.500 every year). Skilled scientists, with volunteers, work there and free them -almost 50%- when they have been healed. That happens in different places in Greece, depending on the season and the kind of the animal.
This hospital is a non-governmental, non-profit organization, aiming to offer medical treatment to any wild animal or bird found in greek territory. Its income depend basicly on the donations of its friends.
Flying dolphins
by mardaska
The quickest way to reach the island is by "flying dolphins", highspeed hydrofoil boats. The duration of the trip is 40 minutes from the port of Pireas.
The price for an adult ticket (one way) is 8.50 Euros.

"The most convinient escape from Athena"
One of the few places that are still original in Greece!!!!
It is an island , close to Athina (1 hour with the ferry) , cheaper then the other islands nearby and very very beautifull and original.
It has a lot of ancient ruins, walks and places to see.
In my opinion it is the most suitable place for a one day or two day cruise from Athens, if you want to go to a greek island.
One Day Cruise
by Lilasel
Aegina island is the ideal place for weekend or a daily cruise and a favourite summer resort. It's located only 17,5 nautical miles from Piraeus. The island is famous for its pistachio-nut and pine trees groves and the more than 3000 years of history.
One morning me and a few VT members (AndyRG, Ivan_Jimenez and bakpakchik) arrived to Aegina Island. Following Andreas (AndyRG) - our greek guide - we have visited the most important Aegina sights and had a delicious lunch in Perdika village...
