Spent almost a month here. The rooms on my floor didn't have balconies but some rooms do. The room was average sized but much smaller that you would find at a modern 4/5 star hotel. The rooms are clean and the maids are very fiendly. The baths are out of the 1950's or 60's but are clean. The shower is pointing out and you have to be very careful or the whole room will be saoked when you finish. Storage space is at a premium. This sournds pretty critical but overall the stay was fine. The location is less than 10 minutes walk from a Metro stop and the neighborhood as quite a few cafes and restaurants (we liked the Agora chain and ate there multiple times, there is one three blocks from the hotel). It is very near the US Embassy and within walking distance of the Hilton. The hotel restaurant is good. If we were tired my wife and I got pasta or a sandwich there and it was always good. The TV wasn't good. It only had CNN and BBC in English. A locan cnallen had "House" on every night at 1845 and that was the highlight of my TV day. There is a market and a Greek bakery a block away (I say Greek bakery because it doesn't have much in the way of US style donuts and danish but they have good stuff). We got our room at E103 while my colleague at the Hilton was paying E150. It was a nicer room but how nice? A black and white mongrel dog named Kirki lives at the parking garage next door give her a treat for me if you stay at the hotel.
Good location. Good restaurant that is not expensive by Athens standards. Clean rooms.
Alexandros is a nice hotel. It really is. It's only a 3 euro cab drive away form the center. It's also nice because it's a small hotel, yet very nice, so you get lots of special treatment.
The Alexandros has a really nice restaurant which is actually well known in Athens called "Don Giovanni." The hotel also has a bar and lounge.
