GOOD HOSTEL
NICE STAY, A LITTLE FAR FROM THE CITY CETRE BUT PRICE NICE, AND NOT FAT FROM RAIL STATION

Wild time
Alright so it's not close to the acropolis or omonia square, those places are easily accesible anyways. I stayed one night in Student Travellers Inn and two night in Hostel Aphrodite and like the second better. It was more out there, more people, more energy. Mind you the internet and laundry are frigin expensive. But the shot of welcoming ouzo and the people, the rooms are worth it.
Unique Quality: It's got a supermarket just around the corner, with good prices and lots of stuff. And it's really close to the train station.

Nice and cheap hotel in Plaka!
The Aphrodite is in Apollonos Street, a quiet ** street just a few minutes walk from the centre of the Plaka. There are no wonderful views (from the front rooms, but from the back you could see Acropolis!!**), no roof garden (it used to have one but -strangely- now it's closed for good !) and no architecture of note (yes, that's true!). You do get a modern hotel, clean and comfortable, with lift, air conditioning, all night staff, and a small bar where you can get alcohol, water, soft drinks, tea and coffee at any time of the day. Continental breakfast is in a large cafe-style room. It is clean but basic with a buffet table at one end...
**Please note that close to the back side of the hotel there's a school yard (meaning that apart the summer months when the schools in Greece are closed there must be some noise, especially if you leave the window open and if you wake up after the 08:00 am )!

Hotel Aphrodite
A very simple accomodation, full of young people. They offer you leaflets in the train, as you arrive in Athens from Patras (after coming by boat from Italy). When you arrive into the station, there is a guy which guides you (and the rest of the group he gathered in the train) to the hostel.

HOSTEL APHRODITE;
In 1999; 1500DR- 6 bed dorm (1800DR in July/Aug)

Rates go up approximately 500 DR in July and August
Unique Quality: This place was recommended by a friend a couple of years back. Most of the rooms are good sized, some with balconies. She stayed in a 6 bed dorm for about £3 a night. There were also some double rooms available, some with and some without showers.
The bar in the basement was kicking and a good place to meet other travellers and served breakfast in the morning. You could by ferry tickets here to the islands for the best prices and she said the staff were very heplful, spoke good english and knew the City well.
Victorias metro station is about a 5 minute walk.
