After 3 nights at the Tempi hotel, the Arion hotel seemed like a palace. It had all the amenities of your typical American hotel and was quite comfortable.

Centrally located, helpful staff, decent breakfast. Very close to subway station and dozens of decent taverna (avoiding those in Plaka will help you avoid tourist traps)
The terrace across from my room had a fabulous view of the Acropolis and the city.
