Omonia Square and the surrounding areas
by inspector-gadjet
Dear Malcolm,
Greece is a lovely country, unfortunately corruption by government officials, civil servants and ordinary people from different nationality has ruined our country. Today our government is trying to rectify the situation but it seems it will take very long to do just that. Corruption is very deep rooted and still strongly active with no sight to eliminate this virus. Yes we have a very bad economic crisis and it is effecting us all. Now is your best chance to enjoy a cheap holiday from hotel accommodation to food, having said that some restaurants in some Islands haven't lowered their prices but if you search around the area where your hotel is located I am sure you will find cheap taverns and family restaurants. As for Athens and for safety reasons do not approach Omonia Square and the surrounding areas, better to stay in Syndagma Square. This is a safety advice for travelers wishing to visit Athens and specially Omonia Square.
Wish you a nice holiday
Beyond the arches ...
by bakpakchik
Athens was strange play on the mind. Behind everything was something of dire conflict. This view from the acropolis was just a start .... the magnificent arches framing those nasty rooftops. I must admit, though: those rooftops looked much better from the distance ...

KYMA T'OURANOU ANATOLI
WAVE OF HEAVEN-EAST
Mario Frangoulis
Música: Steve Wood
Letra : Kostas Fasoulas
Wave of heaven
Wave of heaven
Ineffable song of fire
You, the edge of the precipice
Sea of return
You, the tree of silence
Under your shade I traveled
I traveled and I was jealous
Of the rain's aroma
You tell me -- you'll come, and yet you're always late
My thirst and earth
Is the fountainhead of heaven
What strange escape exalts again in your eyes?
You are a wind that flies away
And you scatter my soul
- Kostas Fasoulas

Lycabettus, from the highest hill ...
by Aggeliki
From the Lycabettus hill you can enjoy the fantastic view of Attica. The funicular brings you up to the top of the hill, or you can reach the hill by walking. The nice little chapel of St. George and the theatre in the north of the hill are very nice. At the top of the hill there are some cafes and restaurants.
