Decent hotel in fun part of town

My wife and I stayed in the Hotel Cypria for the first leg of our honeymoon. The location was nice, close to a big shopping street, and within walking distance of sites like the Ancient Agora and the Acropolis.

There seems to be two types of rooms in this hotel: dingy and quite nice. They at first attempted to put us in a dingy room, but we complained and were put in a nice room with air conditioning (a must), a good bathroom, and almost no noise from the streets outside.

Unique Quality: The breakfast buffet here was very good for European standards. Lots of options, and open somewhat late, if I recall correctly.

Decent but pricey

This was out hotel for our last night in Athens. It is on a street along with other restaurants and coffee shops which is great for location. The hotel seemed nicer in the lobby than the Plaka Hotel. The location is a little farther from the Plaka area, the Acropolis, and the metro than the Plaka Hotel, but there are all still within walking distance. The facilities were very nice and clean. The bathroom was pretty roomy and clean.
While it was very nice, it was more expensive than other hotels that are closer to some of the sights.

Best combination of location, value, and quality.

I am a hard marker, so while this may not sound like a rave review, I highly recommend the Cypria. It is about a 5-8 minute walk from the Syntagma Square Metro station (no need to change trains when coming from the ariport). The staff is friendly & helpful, it has an above-average (for Athens) breakfast (e.g. hot food, bacon & eggs, etc.). The Cypria fronts on a pedestrian street, half a block from the (high-end fashion shopping) Ermou street, and is about 10 minutes from the (start of the path that leads to) the Acropolis. All in all, I suggest the Cypria is the best combination of value, quality, & location.

Location absolutely perfect...

Our arrival at the Cypria Hotel could not have gone any smoother. Our reservations were intact, and the room was waiting. The clerk was most pleasant, cheerful, and the room was the nicest we had occupied since our arrival from Canada a year earlier. We had no income, so we were stretching our $$ as far as we could.

Management had placed fresh fruit in our room, and after our horrible ferry trip, nothing looked or tasted better. Hot showers, a quick nap, and we were ready to go exploring.

Unique Quality: The hotel is located on a small street a couple of blocks from Syntagma Square, and a half block from the shopping street of Ermou, and five minutes from the Plaka District and the archaeological sites. Location was PERFECT.

Comfortable, clean rooms, great service, and reasonable prices. What more could you want. Breakfast was included, and had a little more to offer than usual. Regular coffee, as well as the traditional Greek coffee (seen on my 'customs' page) was offered, with yogurts, boiled eggs, cheeses, cold meats, toast, and rolls, fruits, cereals and juices.

We booked this hotel through The Hotel Club, and received instant confirmation, charged to the credit card. You print a copy of your hotel voucher, with confirmation number for presentation at the hotel upon check-in. Worked flawlessly. Hotel Club was consistantly cheaper and easier to deal with.

Great location! Good Hotel!

by TripAdvisor Member ufgators96

We stayed in the Athens Cypria Hotel on May 29th to June 1st. I picked this hotel based on the location and the reviews that I found on Trip Advisor. It was a good hotel. The location is excellent, near the Parliament building, among tons of shopping and restaurants, and within walking distance of the major sights. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful, and spoke English. The hotel itself was adequate. The room was clean, however the bed had a very thin mattress on it and was hard. If you are exhausted from traveling and walking around to all of the sights you may not even notice it. The room could use some updated decor. If you are looking for a great location for a reasonable price, which is what I was looking for, this is the hotel for you. If you prefer hotels with some luxury, this is not it.

Cypria Surprise

by TripAdvisor Member trippingmeout

We stayed at the Cypria on our last night in Athens before heading to the airport. It was a nice surprise. The lobby was charming and the staff was helpful. There are plenty of coffee shops and shoe/clothing stores right outside the lobby door. The room was adequate and clean (a cot was brought in to accomodate the 3 of us). We were able to get a room on the 6th floor with a good view of the Acropolis. Yes, you could see the unattractive rooftops of other buildings but there was an unobstructed view of the Acropolis from our small balcony. Room 607 looked like it had the best view from all of the 6th floor rooms. Definitely request a room with a view if you can because it was the same price for a room without a view. Upon arrival we were given a free drink coupon (coffee or ouzo) and the buffet breakfast was good.

If you plan on going from the airport to your hotel via metro, the Cypria would be a great choice. The hotel is an easy 3 minute walk from the Syntagma metro station. Having 3 large suitcases, this was a major plus for us. After you get out of the metro, head to Ermou Street (opposite direction from the Parliament). There is a Mc Donalds on the corner of Ermou. Go down the street (I think 2 blocks) until you see the Berto Lucci store sign and make a right.

Athens Cypria is within walking distance to the major attractions. It was safe to walk around the area, even late at night. If you're looking for a clean hotel with decent rooms as your home base for shopping, strolling to major sites, and close to the metro, this is it. I highly recommend Athens Cypria.

Great location; excellent service

by TripAdvisor Member KellyKP

My husband & I stayed at Athens Cypria three different occasions while in Greece. We were pleased each time. The location is excellent - just a short walk to the Metro with fantastic shopping all around. It's also near the Acropolis, the ancient Agora, Syntagma and lots of other sites.

Most of the rooms are newly renovated, although a few aren't, but even those are still pretty nice. All of our rooms were clean and and I would say two out of three were large by European standards.

What most surprised me was the service. We needed wake up calls for three days and they were terrific. Each morning we got a wake-up call and a follow up 15 minutes later a personal follow-up call. (You don't even get that at a Marriott). We also requested a cab for early in the morning the night before and each time the cab was there early. The staff really took care of the details.

One down side was the beds weren't super comfortable, but I feel that way about almost all the beds in Europe so that is not unique to the Athens Cypria.

Perfect spot!

by TripAdvisor Member suzt

This hotel is in a great spot - walking distance to all the things we wanted to see on our brief stay. Close to metro, Acropolis, and dining. We asked for an Acropolis-view room ahead of time and got it! The rooms aren't lavish, but they are clean and adequate. Plus, a full breakfast was included in the very reasonable price.

Enjoyable stay at the Cypria

by A TripAdvisor Member

We had an enjoyable stay at the Cypria. The location is excellent - in the center of everything. The Metro is nearby for when you don't feel like walking. Friendly and very helpful staff. Excellent view of the Acropolis from our room. You have to request a room with a view and it may cost you a little more but well worth it. The rooms have a little balcony where you can enjoy the view with a glass of wine. Good breakfast which is included in the price. The rooms were clean with a good shower. We travelled to Greece with our 2 year old and the hotel accomadated us with a baby cot which he loved. He slept well and ate well. The people were very friendly and accomadating to our son. We really enjoyed our time in Athens and the Cypria was a great place to start and end our days. Excellent value for the location.

Hello, we are coming late by the express bus from the airport to the city. We would like to find a not so expensive hotel near Syntagma where the bus stops because it is quite late in the night. Please let me know your suggestions. Thanks.
