Superfast Ferries from Patras to Bari

by heriany

I will be taking Superfast Ferries from Patras to Bari and would like to make bed reservation from the website.

But confused on the accomodation category. Do anyone have any ideas on the difference between the 2 category listed below. Recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

AB2 (2 Berth Inside with Shower & WC)
A12 (2 Berth Inside with Shower & WC)

Thanks in advance!

It may depend what part of the ferry the cabins are situated in.I found no difference in the cabin designs. It is a nice trip so enjoy.

Arriving in Bari ferry terminal @0830hrs do I have enuff time to catch the train from Bari Centrale to Roma Termini @0950hrs?

If you can get a taxi as soon as you dock--or the first bus into the city then you will make it to the station in time to catch the train. If I were you I would get in line on the ferry to disembark as quickly as you can--it is
do-able--watch out for all the dogs when you get off the ferry--they love to chase cars, taxis etc.

Good luck.

Outside cabins cost more (just as in cruise liners) as they offer views through an outside-facing window!

With inside cabins you just stare at the ceiling!! Well, no external/sea views anyway.

wow...so scary if the dogs start to chase and with my lugage make me more frighten....hehhe

Thanks for the info!

Hi again, you only need your cabin to sleep and shower--the fery lounge areas are really great and you will be able to see the sea as much as you like.

Those ferries are like miniature passenger liners/cruise ships.

Have fun.

Thanks Dorrise, ohk..so we can move around as much as we like at the lounge to view the sea/scenery right.?

In that case I will make a reservation with 2 berth inside which is cheaper.

Thanks again!

You've got the idea.

Suites, private balconies are worthwhile if doing a longer cruise; otherwise it's okay I guess to just use your cabin to sleep.

Indeed the main lounge/deck would offer wider all-round views!!

BTW -- a belated welcome to VT and hope all this will help you.

PS you will find the truckies/lorry drivers very interesting--they have the loading/unloading down to a fine art.

Cheers again--Dorrise

Travel Tips for Athens

Dogs

by rcsparty

One of the things that is quickly noticable in Athens is the amount of dogs wandering the streets. We found them very friendly and never saw them get aggressive towards anyone. We did notice a large number were wearing locks on their collars, and were told that this signified they had been neutered or spayed.

Classical Glory

The eternal symbol of Athens is ofcourse the main reason for someone to visit Athens.Ornamented with unique masterpieces such as the Parthenon, the Erecthion, the Propylea, and the temple of Apteros Nike(means 'Wingless Victory'),the 'Sacred Rock'or else the Acropolis has witnessed 2500 years of history. The Parthenon,is undisputedly the most important landmark not only of Athens but of all Greece. Not only because it's the finest example of temple of doric order or because its dimensions are virtually perfect. Not even because it stands there for two and a half millennia. It's the symbolism that makes Parthenon so important. Dominating the skyline of Athens,Parthenon is the symbol of something that most nations still strive to acquire:Democracy. What i most like to do everytime i visit the Acropolis is to ponder. The visit at the site always fills me with intense feelings...Awe and humbleness.

Athens Tip

by Coco_Lee

The capital of modern Greece began as a small fortified village as far back as 3,000 B.C. Built on top of the Acropolis hill, its first name was Kekropia, after its mythical founder, King Kekrops. Later, when the goddess Athena won the city in a competition with Poseidon, she gave it her name. Today, the ancient home of Socrates and Pericles boasts a population of four million.

I am very proud to be a greek. :)

Athens Ghetto

by Arial_27

In my opinion, there weren't many other things to do in Athens besides the Acropolis, Acint Agorra, Plaka district and a few of the museums. Many parts of the city are actually quite dirty, and rundown. There are a lot of poor homes, pollution, and homelesness.
One hotel we stayed at was right next to an apartment home, and a lot of the people living in it were using either cardboard boxes, or rags for their windows.
I included a page from my scrapbook here that shows the 'ghetto' areas of Athens. These three pictures are the views from my hotel room windows.

Learning The Lingo

by cheekymarieh

The hospitality of the Greek people is second to none. You are made to feel welcome from the first moment.

My friend's father knew very little English and we were in hysterics when he quoted something that he had heard on the news many years ago: 'Maggie Thatcher the Milk Snatcher'.

After this first trip, I started to learn the language and was able to communicate a little more on later trips. On first viewing Greek looks a very difficult language to learn but once you familiarise yourself with the alphabet things aren't as bad as they seem. It really is worth to learn a little of the language to make a good impression with the natives. People are extremely hospitable of you make the effort.
