Candia Hotel, Athens by Arial_27 I stayed here from March 12 - March 16 2004 with my school group. It wasn't the most beautiful hotel I'd ever stayed in, but it wasn't bad either. They were under contruction while we were there so the elevators weren't working. The rooms weren't much to speak of with the plain beige walls and a balcony overlooking a ghetto-area of Athens. Although this hotel wasn't the greatest, it was still clean, the staff was friendly, they served a really good breakfast buffet, and it was within walking distance to the Plaka district for a cheaper price.
The rooms each have a TV, air conditioning, heating, a large window, and a private clean bathroom that supplied soap and towels. The beds were really comfey.. There is a swimming pool on the roof but it was too cold when I was there to go swimming. They also have a bar, and direct dial telephones in each room. The staff was also caring and considerate. I called reception at 2:30am to complain about another room making a lot of noise and I couldn't sleep. They came upstairs and put a stop to it immediately.

This is what our room looked like. by wetnap The staff seemed friendly, and the rooms were nice, most of the hotel was clean, and the food wasn't too bad either, but there were definately a number of problems with Hotel Candia. First off, the elevator, which couldn't fit too many people in it and on several occasions nearly trapped people inside of it. The TV in our room was permanently fixed on one channel and one (very loud) volume. Also, the pool on the roof didn't look very clean.
The rooftop was a great place to hang out. The pool wasn't that great, but the view was spectacular, especailly at night when the acropolis was all lit up. The view out of the windows, however, wasn't too great. The window in our room overlooked a gas station and a ghetto, for instance, and the window in the hall outside of our room gave a good view of depressing, cracked brick walls. The whole place was apparently under renovation for the Olympics at the time, apparently. Theme: Hotel
