Highly recommended Hotel

The Central Athens Hotel was a great choice. I am a travel agent with AMT American Express Travel and while traveling the world I'm always on the look out of great hotel stays for my clients and I defiantly found one at The Central Athens Hotel. The staff was accommodating, friendly and very helpful. Although the Central does not offer room service, the staff is happy to pick up a meal at a local restaurant and bring it to your room. Breakfast is included in the price of your room. We booked a room, although small, with a view of the Acropolis and at night it was stunning. Even if you don't have a room with the view you can enjoy the roof top terrace. Buy a bottle of wine and take it to the top at sunset! The Central is within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and even the Acropolis.
Thank you, Centeral Athens Hotel for a wonderful stay and we'll be back our next visit to Athens. Veronica Sgro, Travel Agent
Handy for everything

The Central is a comfortable mid-priced hotel, situated in the Plaka district of Athens. The major sights such as the Acropolis and the Agora are within reasonable walking distance, as are the restaurants and bars of Plaka. It is also conveniently situated about mid way between Syntagma and Monastiraki metro stations, making it a good base for exploring the other sights of Athens such as the National Archealogical Museum, or getting to Piraeus for ferries to the islands. The rooms are very comfortably furnished, with air conditioning, fridge, and a safe. There is also a great rooftop terrace to enjoy an evening drink with spectacular views of the Acropolis. There are also sunloungers and spa tub. We have stayed in the hotel half a dozen times, and have had a good experience each time. Probably not for those on a tight budget with rooms on average about £100 per night, but well recommended if you want to splash the cash for a couple of nights.
Fine hotel, great location

Despite some negative reviews on Trip Advisor, we booked this Central Hotel in Athens for a 2 night stay mid August for its central location in Plaka and relying on the recommendation in The Rough Guide. We have not been disappointed. This is a nice hotel, clean, very friendly personnel, both at the reception and in the breakfast room. We stayed in a family room on the third floor, which we can highly recommendf both for families and for a group of 4 people; it has 2 connecting rooms, each with its own bathroom and a hall in between the two rooms, so all privacy one needs. Rooms were as not tiny as we had feared, they were normal and large enough for a downtown hotel. The bathroom was totally clean, some darker spots in the shower showed earlier humidity but were not embarassing and had been treated with Silicone. The beds were great; firm but good matrasses. The carpet indeed was not very soft on bare feet, and had some spots, but clean and ok overall. Breakfast was good, with fresh fruit, 5 sorts of flakes, toasts, cheese, ham, eggs, yoghurt, cake, croissants, etc. After breakfast, the breakfast lady spontaneously suggested to give us some fruit for our trip to the Acropolis; she washed some peaches and gave us them in a bag with some napkins ... what could we ask more? The roof terrace with view on the Acropolis and some design sun beds and seats were a real treat, or should be especially in Spring or Autumn, so it was a pity that the bar on the roof terrace was not open. The jacuzzi was open but did not appeal for a second time. For breakfast, the terrace was considered too hot but the hotel personnel offered that we took our plates to the roof and eat there at a little table, if we wanted to - which we did not do as the breakfast room was nice and more convenient. Upon departure, the reception reserved us a taxi from a known business partner and we enjoyed a very calm and pleasant drive to the airport with a really fine Greek driver who did not cheat us! Finally, the hotel is located in a quiet street and absolutely close to the metro, bus stations, Acropolis, parliament with the guards, etc. In a nutshell, a very good address in a top location! We would definitely return.
Prehoneymoon Spot

We spent 5 nights at the Central Hotel, using it as our base for the beginning of our honeymoon (the bulk of which was on a Greek island).
It was superb. My husband had arranged for flowers and champagne for the room which were all ready and beautiful. Room was well furnished, bright, had very characterful balcony. It wasn't huge but we found it more than enough for us.
Breakfast fine, staff absolutely great...warm, helpful and accomodating.
Location could not be better...right next to the Plaka, Acropolis and Agora, which is just as well as these really are the highlights of a not too exciting city. (We spent most of our time out of town visiting Delphi, Mycenae &c).
Only slight criticisms...the floor in the room was badly stained and it was a pity that the glorious roof top terrace with tables and jacuzzi did not really feature an operating bar and in fact the hotel did not have one.
Otherwise, very pleasing in interior design, service and location and for us definitely a place to return to. We paid 100 Euros a night and thought that good value all round.
Wonderful, quiet, amazing view

The Central Hotel exceeded our expectations on several levels. All areas were very clean and comfortable, with modern architectural touches and a welcoming, simple feel. The reception staff was friendly and professional. Breakfast is fine, nothing special. What this small hotel lacks in space and luxury, it makes up for in uncomplicated comfort. After schelpping around the heat and dust of Athens for hours, it was a pleasure to return to the Central, turn on the powerful AC and relax. This is especially true because although the hotel--as promised--is central, it is on a very quiet street a few steps from the bustling Plaka. We couldn't have asked for a better location.
That said, you will probably be spending very little time in your lovely little quiet room. There's much to see and do here. But one of our most memorable sightseeing adventures actually happened at the Central: the roof deck features the most exquisite view of the Acropolis. Go up a half hour before sunset and watch the light fade on the Acropolis as the warm quiet night envelopes you. It is magical. (Bring your own drinks...there was a bar, but it did not seem to be functioning. Also a hot tub up there, but it was 90 degrees and we didn't feel like it). Then drift out into the night and stroll around the Plaka until you find a welcoming taverna (we highly recommend I Palia Taverna tou Psarra at Erechtheos 16, right on the edge of the Acropolis.)
In my mind, there's no reason to splurge on luxury accommodation in Athens (our room was 99 euro a night). This hotel is authentically uncomplicated but exceedingly well-managed and maintained. I would stay here again without hesitation.
Very nice!

it was quite nice, staff spoke great english, centrally located (we had a view of acropolis from our room). They had a really nice terrace on the roof, the best place to watch the lights of Acropolis at night.
