Our flight for Athens leaves tomorrow morning. We are wondering if it's safe to travel there for the weekend. Can you steer clear from the demonstrations and have a "normal" visit or not...? Our hotel is the Electra Palace.
Better to change your hotel for a few days, & head north to Delphi for a couple of days, while the dust settles ;-)
Normally, we dont have demonstrations during weekends, of course, normally is a word in question these days... But tomorrow, we'll know if there will be any protest during weekend
Your hotel is at Plaka area, close to Syntagma square but definetely out of the way that the protest goes (in front of the parliament at Syntagma square)
So, in case of a demonstration stay away from it and you'll be fine
Absolutely safe area. Here is the website:

It looks pretty quiet at the moment - I think as long as you keep your wits about you and avoid the areas that are known as gathering oints you should be safe enough.

You MUST see the Acropolis! Make sure you read up on history and go there to walk in hte history of more then 2000 years... Having coffee by the Acropolis, watching the sun set... One of my absolute favorite things to do while in Athens!
ATHENS - Capital of Greece - Cradle of Democracy - Birthplace of Western Civilization! Whatever you want to call it.

Hans and I were here on a number of occasions during this vacation, but this is the day we planned to go to the Acropolis.
I am glad we waited until the end of our vacation, as the first week we were here, it rained just about every day.
We picked a warm, sunny day - perfect for exploring and walking up hills and steps, which there is plenty of at the Acropolis. Would it be the same as I remembered. It seemed small to me then and when you're young you don't appreciate what you're seeing anyway. This time I can share this experience with Hans. It truly is a magical place. We just sat there on a bench and looked at the Parthenon in awe as many others were doing.
Athens took its name from Athena, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge. A vibrant city where old and new co-exist. Athens is home to numerous architectural marvels, like Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, Temple of Hephaistes, Theatre of Herodes Atticus, Parliament Buildings, numerous museums and crowned by the majestic Parthenon.
Come along with Hans and I to experience not only the Acropolis but many other wonders that Athens has to offer.
the Island of Poros
The most delightful thing for a tourist is wandering around the island, shooting some pictures for its picturesque harbour, and its town which is built on two rocky hills.
