The Plaka, Is It For You?
by Paul2001
I am torn whether to call the Plaka a tourist trap or recommend it as a place to go. This is because though I did find it interesting with its many shops, restaurants, cafes, charming old buidings and occasional ruin, I simply found it too over touristed to be enjoyable. Furthermore the restaurants and cafes here are really overpriced for this reason. Not only that but the food was really not that good in most of the restaurants If you want to eat wellI spent a total of five nights in Athens. I actually eat dinner in the neigborhood of Exarhia. There many very good restaurants and bars in this neighborhood where the food is great. On a whole it is a lot less touristy.
The Acropolis and the other...

The Acropolis and the other main sites, of course. The Plaka shopping district at the foot of the Acropolis was especially enjoyable.
Great shopping! Several of the outdoor cafes in the Plaka.

Athens Tip
by KALYMNOS
The extensive Mountain Protection Programme will result in an increase of the green areas around Athens.
The centre of Athens is becoming an Archeological Park, thus increasing green areas within the city as well.
Roads will be turned into green walkways that will conect all historical monuments and museums of the city.
Parthenon

Parthenon
The name Parthenon means 'virgin's apartment', the largest Doric temple ever completed in Greece.
The Parthenon had a dual purpose - to house the great statue of Athena (Where is she now?), and to serve as a treasury for the tribute money which had been moved from Delos (Another cave used by pirate to hide gold?).
