4 Rovertou Galli Street, Athens, Attica, 11742, Greece
Fine hotel with excellent location.
Very good hotel with typically small but comfortable rooms. An unbeatable location within easy walking distance to the Acropolis, the new Acropolis museum, and Plaka. Fine rooftop lounge with marvelous nighttime view of the Parthenon! Excellent service from an attentive staff. Highly recommended for all.
Unique Quality: Great view of the Parthenon lit up at night from rooftop lounge.
Directions: Acropolis and Plaka.
A hotel smack in the middle of where you want it
I was on a three-day job-related visit plus added some leisure time here and enjoyed this hotel's location very much.
Architecturally it's not really much to speak of - no concession to ancient Greece; steel, glass and concrete.
Like in most hotels in the centre of Athens, the neighbours are near and loud - a bit noisy and if your window is open you'll definitely wake up early from traffic and talking/arguing people.
But I'd still ocme back here if I have things to do in Athens.
Unique Quality: Very close to the convenience of the Acropolis Metro station.
Good rooms suitable for a job visit, less for a leisure trip.
Some very good and "authentic" restaurants, bars and late night coffee and dessert places.
Easy walking distance to the Plaka shopping and entertainment streets.
Comfortable walking distance to the key archaeological sites in downtown Athens: the Acropolis, Hadrian's Arch, The Tmple of the Olympian Zeus and the National Garden and the Olympic Stadium.
Good, professional service at the front desk.
Taxi drivers know the place.
Directions: Two blocks below (south) of the Acropolis.
More about Herodion Hotel
Perfect location and great staff!
We were scheduled to stay in this hotel for two nights -- starting our vacation in Athens and midway during the trip. Due to a huge weather mishap in the States, we were forced to miss our first night. In retrospect, this was a disappointment as the Herodion Hotel is a gem in the midst of Athens.
The hotel has a boutique-like style to it. Very modern lobby with a garden atrium/bar/casual restaurant and a small but cozy seating area with comfortable chairs and tables.
I believe that the hotel has four floors of rooms and a garden terrace/deck with a view of the Acropolis and a hot tub. The hotel appears to have undergone a make-over and it is very obvious. The rooms are nicely appointed -- not too small, but not overly spacious. The bathrooms are well appointed and very modern.
Our rooms were actually adjoining (we had two standard rooms with two twin beds in each) and one of them had a balcony with a restricted view of the acropolis. The beds were very comfortable.
You are literally two blocks from the Acropolis in a very quite neighborhood setting. The view from the rooftop terrace is lovely at night. It appeared that the bar area was under construction when we were there, but you were able to access one area and get the view.
We ended up eating in this hotel as the restaurant we were interested in (Strophi's ? -- right up the street -- was closed the night we were there). The food was excellent as was the service. The breakfast buffet was also above-average.
Overall, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Other than a stressful attempt to drive to this hotel from Meteora in my rental car -- could see where we wanted to be but couldn't get there -- the hotel was ideal. (Plus the ice cream from the bar at night was delicious!)
We stayed here for two nights, one at the beginning of our tour and one at the end.
The location is just fantastic. You are about four blocks from the Plaka, and within easy walking distance to the acropolis, just walk up the hill and there it is. We had a stunning view from our first room, if you have a choice stay on that side of the hotel.
The first room we had was 315. It is wonderful -- the bed is so comfortable. Room was large, with a sitting area and a balcony. The bathroom was very clean and well equiped. The entire room was clean and comfortable. If you can secure this room take it.
Our second night was spent in rm 117. This room was not very nice at all. Bed was not comfortable, the mattress was incredibly lumpy. Pillows were thin and overly soft. The room was dingy and while not dirty, was not exactly clean either. The carpet was stained and old. The bathroom here was acceptable just barely. No balcony off this room - appears to be the only one on this side of the hotel without a balcony.
We did not find the front desk very helpful. Breakfast was good, but not outstanding. The hotel restraunt is just average, take a walk to the Plaka and eat there, much better.
The differences in the two rooms we stayed in was very pronounced. I would not risk staying here again unless I knew for certain I woudl be in one of the better rooms. For the price the 315 is well worth it, but 117 is not even close.
We stayed two nights in this hotel - one at the beinning and one at the end of our holiday in April 2006. The location is perfect within easy walking distance to both the Plaka and the Acropolis. Our rooms on both nights were located at the back of the complex and were quiet and clean. The front desk people were helpful, it was a good value hotel and is thoroughly recommended.
Great small, cozy, hotel
We just returned from Athens and stayed at the Herodian Hotel and loved it. Great location and views of the Acropolis! The lobby is cozy and inviting and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Good food in the beautiful restaurant and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. The location was great - walking distance to the Plaka - a great shopping and dining area. I am a travel agent and would highly recommend the Herodian Hotel to clients traveling to Athens.
Pleasant Hotel in Excellent Location
Pleasant, clean hotel with reasonable ammenities in an excellent location essentially at the bottom of theAacropolis. Food prices were competitive with the bevy of eating places located nearby.
We had a room at the rear of the hotel and the school kids playing basketball after school in the late afternoon on the nearby basketball court were a bit noisy. Everthing else was fine.
Very nice hotel
Hotel Herodion is situated in a quite area, it's a very nice hotel with a friendly staff. When we arrived we had a problem with our room, we asked for a triple room but they just added a very small bed and non of us wanted to sleep in such a small bed, so we went to the reception and they should us 2 other rooms with 3 normal beds. The rooms are quite small but very clean. The bathroom was big enough according to greek norms. Herodion has a nice decor and their restaurant serves excellent food for a very reasonnable price. They have also a great roof garden.
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Herodion for 3 nights in early June 2006. We were in a double room ( # 401 ) on the top floor. We had a king bed and the bathroom was large and new, plus a mini frig and safe ( although you pay 1.80 euro per day to use the safe ). The balcony overlooking the front of the hotel was almost as large as the room ( which was big ). The room was very quiet and although we were on a smoking floor, we did not smell any odors ( we are non-smokers ). Breakfast was eggs, bacon, toast/rolls, sweets, cereals, fruit and yogurt. We paid $ 220.00 per night. You also pay 6 euro per 24 hour for internet access in your room ( with your own computer ). They had computers in the lobby for 2 euro per 30 minutes. This is a lovely hotel with a beautiful lobby that has a bar and restaurant. There is a rooftop garden where you can take your own drinks, etc. The view of the Acropolis is spectacular. Get a room that faces the front street as there is a school/playground facing the back of the hotel. We loved this hotel and would stay there again.
Very nice hotel, great area
Great location in Athens; our room in the back had a window with a view up to the Acropolis; at night, we could see the Parthenon lit up. It's less than a10 minute walk to the Acropolis from the hotel. The subway is about 5 minutes away.
The hotel is quite posh; the restaurant is very nice though the food is somewhat "international" and nothing to write home about. But especially with kids (we have two, all stayed in one room) it's convenient to have it right there. The separate breakfast area is really good with ham, eggs, croissants, coffee, juice, etc.
The rooms are not super large but adequate; the facilities are clean and modern. Plenty of space in the bathroom. The whole hotel has an air of modernity which is perhaps a little out of place in ancient Athens.
We would definitely stay here again; well worth it.
Grocery store and small restaurans near Herodion Hotel
Hi, I am also looking for small restaurants near Herodion Hotel, which is on Rovertou Galli Street; since we will be in Athens for about 4 days, I would rather not have lunch and dinner at the Plaka all the time since that can be quite expensive. Can you please tell me about a grocery story where we can purchase snacks and water (perhaps they also have a Deli or something similar) in order to alternate places to eat? Thanks
Re: Grocery store and small restaurans near Herodion Hotel
Don't worry, the hotel reception staff will be able to give you exact directions to a nearby market.
Re: Grocery store and small restaurans near Herodion Hotel
As said you'll have no problem. There are mini markets all around, sandwich selling places and you might even buy something from a kiosk they are everywhere and open almost all the time. Don't worry about starving you'll find a lot of low cost alternatives.
