Inexpensive transfer company?

by mlry6e

I'm looking for insider advice re an inexpensive, reliable transfer company that would do 4 passengers (2 cars or 1 minibus) from the airport to the Acropolis View Hotel, the hotel to Piraeus (Holland America cruise) and from Piraeus to the airport? The company I was looking at quoted 35 EU for each of 2 cars or 70 for a minibus only a few months ago. Told me to wait until 30 days out to book. The company is now quoting 50 EU for the 2 cars and 120 EU for the minibus. I've checked w/ some other companies, too. The range for the cars is 45 - 60 EU and 110 - 130 EU for the minibus. Thanks in advance for any help!

Can't help with the earlier transfers, but Pireaus to the airport by public buss is only about 3 euro's per person. The bus leaves frequently from the bus station just by the wharf complex.

Bus is X96 from 05.00-19.00 (every 20-25 minutes) from 19.00-05.00 (every 30-35 minutes)

What dates will you be arriving in Athens? Prices may vary depending on the season. If you still want to rent a mini van, try calling my friends at DRIVE. SEE MY TIP on my Greece page:

http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/74ef1/1cd/9/

Ask for Nina or Dimitri and mention my name. I can't guarantee that their prices are the cheapest, but I can say that they are the most reliable and friendly Car Rental I've ever used in Greece. I get no commission for referring my friends either!

Hope this is helpful. If I am in Athens when you arrive, perhaps we can meet up for a coffee or drink or a walk around Plaka:):)

Travel Tips for Athens

Entry Tickets

by mohadig

Especially for the student, it was so beneficial since student who brings the student card or any proves that s/he still is a student in EU country can gain with free entry ticket especially in the museum, Acropolis, Olympia Zeus. That is 100% free, no additional charge inside the places. But this case does not work with any transportation ticket even no cheaper transportation ticket, at least at my visit. The people are really kind and helpful, though not many can speak English. However, they will still help you, in any way. I remember when my friend, we wer2 4 there, asked a woman about the location of ticket cashier. She even gave us for free 4 ticket because it was already night, no any cashier is open.

There was not a city option...

by ThereAndBack

There was not a city option for Santorini, so I'm including a picture here with the comment that while you're in Athens - enjoy; but find your way to Santorini. Fondest memory of Santorini was sipping wine on a cliff-side cafe overlooking the scene in the picture... it was like sitting in the middle of a postcard!

The Parliament

by AndyRG

It was built between 1836-1840 and first housed the palace of Otto (1815-1867), who was the first king of Greece, for 30 years, 1833-1862. Since 1935, the building houses the Parliament (at the previous years, it was housed at the today National Historical Museum, not far away from this building, see the appropriate "must see activities" tip).
The Parliament is among the National Garden and Syntagma square. Temporary exhibitions are held there time by time. If you want to learn more about it, visit the web address "www.parliament.gr".

Neighborhood Tip 1: Pagrati

by WillAntoniou

Pagrati isn't really much of a tourist attraction. It's more of a residential area. However, it has some fantastic cafes, like Aerostato and El Nil. It's very close to the center of Athens, without the crowds. So, I would suggest maybe going. It would give you a real of feel of Athen's Life, rather than just the typical things tourists are setup to see.

It's a quiet, nice neighborhood with Greek, Thais, Egyptians, and Philipinos living together. Check it out. Pagrati is the neighborhood in which I live, so, I guess I love everything about it. Come visit me!

The terrain of Athens

by athenian80

The terrain of Athens is pretty irregular. There are many hills the most important of which are the Acropolis, Lycavitos, Filopappos, Nimfon etc . I myself used to live on the top of a hill in Vironas (or Byron –a borough east of the city center). When I had to return home on foot it was quite tiring. It may be a little tiring for you too while you stroll around the city (although the historical center is between the Acropolis and Lycavitos and flat) but the great views the hills offer will certainly reward you.
