Overnight ferry

by Edjen

Does anyone know if there is an overnight ferry from Santorini to Athens/Pireaus port. We are trying to get another full day in Santorini before flying out of Athens. As a second option, will consider other islands that would have an overnight ferry.

Until October 26 Lane Lines has one that leaves Santorini at 6pm, arriving at Piraeus at 5am, TUESDAYS ONLY.

Until October 31 Anek Lines has one that leaves Santorini at 10:30pm, arriving at Piraeus at 7:15am, SUNDAYS ONLY.

These are your only two overnight ferry options.

check with a ticket agency on the island to be sure. They have speed boats as well as the slower ones operating daily in high season but when the season is over there are less boats on schedule. Good lUCK CHEERS

We caught this Blue Star ferry back to Piraeus from Santorini:

Leaves Santorini 16.00 pm- - arrives Piraeus 00.05 am.
Although not overnight, it does give you almost an extra day in Santorini.

The ferry stops (on the way back to Pireaus) first at Naxos, then Paros, then Piraeus to collect cars & passengers.

Here is the website with timetable:

"it does give you almost an extra day in Santorini"..........

It won't be anywhere near a full day considering your hotel checkout time is usually around 1pm, then add the fact that you'll have to be at the ferry port by 3:30 at the latest if you have tickets in hand, earlier if you plan to buy them at the port. You'll be constantly watching the clock once you check out, and you'll have to find something to do with your bags in the interim, then go collect them before leaving for the port. Of course your hotel might keep them for you, but unless your hotel is close to the bus stop in Fira or to the port itself that means spending extra time in transit. Hardly a relaxing way to spend your last few hours there.

Well................maybe we were lucky.
We got a late checkout, the hotel held onto our luggage, and we had a relaxing lunch and walk before heading to the port at 3pm.
I never said it was perfect- just an OPTION!!

More to the point, there are more options than those:
Every 2 days is a Bluestar ferry at about 00:40 arr 05:40 Piraeus.
As this is on the mainline route to/from Kos/Rhodes continues even in the off-season.

Travel Tips for Athens

Located 23 km south of Athens,Asteras Vouliagmenis beach is one of the most famous (because of it’s 5star hotel)and crowded beach with beautiful clean water, sand and beach bars.Akti Vouliagmenis is in the opposite side with cafeterias, restaurant and volley courts

See the Erechtion after the visit at Parthenon.
The original Caryatids are in the neighbour Museum to be protected against pollution. The statues you see outdoor are copies.
A Century ago, Lord Elgin thought the Caryatids were better in London than at their original place (Napoleon did the same at Venice). He gave one of the statue at the British Museum.
Recently, the missing Caryatid has been back.

Following locals' recommendation, we went to Psiri in search of a place to eat. At first it felt like that was a decaying part of town, too dark and empty at night. But when we finally got to the right streets, we found lots and lots of restaurants and bars, each of them very seductive, all decorated with incredible good taste, so much that it was hard to pick one when it meant we'd have to give up on the cool places next doors. If you arrive for dinner before 10pm, chances are you'll be the first customers here!

You must explore the Plaka! It is quite a large area of Athens filled with all sorts of shops, cafes and restaurants. Well, I like to shop & I like to eat, so I liked the Plaka!! So must many others because it is always very crowded!

Graffiti on Athens' city walls, buildings, statues, almost everywhere possible is usually about political slogans and symbols. Still, there are many creative graffiti artists who spray the city in their own colorful way.
