About €35. Be sure the meter is set to Tariff #1.

The Airport Express Bus X95 will take you to Syntagma Square for €3.2 and the Blue Line Metro will take you to Syntagma Square or Monastiraki Square on the edge of the Plaka for €6 or 2 for €10. Mid-day this will take around 45 minutes.

Last weekend, I had to pay 50 Euros. It's expensive. I didn't remember which agency it was.

Re: taxi from airport to Plaka airport - how much does it cost?

There is a setting on the taxi meter for Tariff 1 or Tariff 2. Tariff 2, approximately double the day rate, is only supposed to be used between Midnight and 6am. It's a convenient trick of the taxi drivers to use the #2 setting during the day on unsuspecting visitors. I wonder if this happend to you....

Re: taxi from airport to Plaka airport - how much does it cost?

brotherleelove - thanks so much. My parents took a taxi on Sunday morning to Plaka. The driver asked for E55. My mom had printed out your response, and told him "Tarrif 1"; he was shocked that she knew this. She still paid him 40 Euros, which sounds a tad high, and she said the driver was still very happy to take that.

Re: taxi from airport to Plaka airport - how much does it cost?

Per telephone conversation with 171 Tourist Police:

basic price on entering taxi = 1.20
price per kilometre tariff 1 = 3.40
tolls for Attiki Odos = 2.90
price per luggage over 10 kilos = .30

Average price during tariff 1 from Airport to Syntagma = 35Euros...

Other circumstances that may cause an increase in this price:
1. heavy traffic
2. route driver takes
3. various distance from airport to final hotel destination.

Closes route from airport to Centre of Athens is via Attiki Odos, Messogeon Street, Vas. Sofias Street.

50 Euros is too much for a normal trip on tariff 1.

Again, if you believe you are being charged too much...threaten to call 171. the Tourist Police.

The Parliament guards guarding the unknown soldier

by Kodi01

Changing of the guards at the Greek Parliament Building is great to watch.

They are at the Syntagma Square and they guard the "Unknown Soldier. This was my first day there also, wandering around and trying to find places, pics, etc.

I asked the Captain over these soldiers if I could take a picture with them and he said Yes.

It was not too crowded when I was there, although I understand this is a MOST popular attraction. Just like Buckingham Palace changing of the guards is for tourist. I think this is MUCH more impressive than London.
