More about Orizontes Santorini

What a view!!!

by annaxa about Orizontes Lykavittou

The view is magical, and the tastes here are fine, too!
Every time I have friends from abroad this is the first place I get them to eat.
The longer we stay the longer we enjoy it. The dishes are international but with a greek twist as well, which makes them delicious.
Add the wide wine selection, for connaiseurs, too...
A highly recommended experience! The lamb dish is awesome -
also try the cote de veau,
and if you are into fish, there are great fish dishes here, as well.

Don't forget to taste dessert- they are all great!
(I'm a sugarholic - I know!)

View from Above

by starstudio

Athens being hilly, there are several points where you can get superb view of the city. One of them is the Acropolis Hill and the other is Lycabettus Hill, a sharp limestone rock climbing 277 metres above sea level. The birds-eye-view from the top is incredible and covers Mount Parnetha in the north, the Acropolis Hill crowning the city centre and further south all the way to Piraeus and the Saronic Gulf.

Perched on the cliff is the small white church of Agios Georgios, which is beautifully lit in the evening. There’s also the Lycabettus open-air theatre, which hosts various theatrical performances and concerts during the summer, as well as the classy Orizontes café-restaurant where you can have some coffee and enjoy the view. The fastest -and hassle-free- way to reach the top is to take the two-minute ride with the funicular. The starting point is the corner of Kleomenous and Ploutarhou streets in Kolonaki. If you’re set on doing it on foot, it’s best to start from Loukianou street.

Greece the country of Gods

"dedicated to the "uncompleted sea""

Wherever I went I was always returning here...

What can I say about Greece. I have travelled all over my country. Mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, unique islands. Beautiful villages, modern and lively cities. Warm, friendly and simple people. A country, rich with sun, myth, culture and glorious history.

The Love
The open sea
And its froths
And the seagulls of its dreams
At the highest mast the sailor waves
a song

The Love
Its song
And the horizons of its trip
And the echo of its nostalgia
At the most wet rock the fiance waits
a ship

The Love
Its ship
And the insouciance of its meltemi winds
And the jib of its hope
On its sea’s slightest ripple an island rocks
the coming

A restaurant with panoramic view of Acropolis

by jfdez2

Hello,

I am going to travel to Athens on september and I want to know a restaurant and hotel with panoramic view of Acropolis to get dinner and see Acropolis iluminated.

Thank you in advance and best regards,

Re: A restaurant with panoramic view of Acropolis

by brotherleelove

I'm not sure this is what you have in mind, but Orizontes (Horizons) is a restaurant at the top of Lycabettus Hill that commands an amazing view of Athens and the Acropolis. Take the funicular from the Kolonaki District up the hill in time for the sunset and stay for a meal.

A restaurant with panoramic view of Acropolis

by INSULARIUS

Certainly, you can have the best view over the Acropolis by choosing the "Dionyssos Restaurant", on the opposite side of the Acropolis.I would say, it is a little bit xpensive, but the panoramic view is "priceless" and worths any price!

Que tengas un buen viaje y feliz estancia en mi pais!

Thank you for your answers. Do you know if I can I make reservations online?
How long in advance can I make a reservation? How much it cost a dinner for two more or less?

Reservations are always a good idea. Here's the phone number for Orizontes, I couldn't find a menu with prices, a website or an email address.

In september temperatues at evening are still good, so walk around in the Plaka area and find a nice taverna with views!!! there are so many!! be aware that Lycabettos hill is not next to the Acropolis!! maria

Re: A restaurant with panoramic view of Acropolis

As you walk up the road to the Acropolis, if you keep on going then there is a restaurant right there on the left-hand side. No idea what it is called but it has a good view of the Acropolis. However, I would just have a wander around Plaka and find a restaurant that has a good view. Just had a thought, if you go to www.athensguide.com there is a section there on restaurants and I seem to remember that there was mention of several that have roof restaruants with good views.

I saw two hotels below, both claiming to have a great view of their restaurant:

Hera Hotel: http://www.herahotel.gr/gallery/index.htm

Athens Gate Hotel: http://www.athensgate.gr/html/restaurant-bar-eng.htm

Good luck and have a great time!

Travel Tips for Athens

Learning Greek

by janbeeu

As Greek is also one of the foundation stones of almost all other European languages, it certainly is worthwhile learning Greek. Mastering the language not only will give you a much higher self confidence while staying in Greece, it will also result in a much closer connection to the Greek population. Imagine how much more you can learn from the old Greeks who do not speak any other language. On top, you will be highly respected by the Greeks for knowing their language.

There are several ways to learn Greek. You can learn Greek online. A simple search will guide you to the many different language sites that offer Greek lessons.

You can buy a language course (with audio cassettes, cd-rom or dvd) and master the Greek language in your spare time.

The very best way to learn Greek however, is to go to a language school and be thought Greek there. Not too many schools offer this solution but if there is one close to you, it might be a good idea to get more information on their Greek language course.
