Margarita Apartments

Mrs Margarita, known as Rita in the village of Lefki has a hotel on the main road of the island. You can not miss it as it is on your way. It has rooms for two or three people, and even big apartments which can take from 4 to 6 people. They cost from 30 euros to 65 euros, depending on their size, in high season (end of July and August). But out of season prices are negotiable and can go down to 20euros. The rooms have no luxuries but they are spacious, clean and comfortable, with a kitchen where you can prepare all your meals and most of all offer superb views of the sea and the island of Kefalonia !!!

Private rooms

Renting private rooms is a very convenient way to sleep in Vathy, as there are only 2 hotels. Usually in summer there are people waiting for the ferry who offer you their rooms, so there is no need to wander around.

BUT the last time I went, I arrived in Pissaetos, the other pier, and arrived in Vathy by taxi, so there were no locals waiting at the ferry. I asked first at the local travel agency and they said it was FULLY BOOKED! I had no intention of returning to Patras, so I left the rucksack at the agency and wandered around the streets looking for signs. The first 2 were already booked, but in the 2nd, the old lady phoned a friend and she accompanied me to a house which was up the hill. There was a room for the next day free, but they offered me to sleep in their bedroom that night, they would sleep in the living room (money is money!).
So I slept that night in their bed (nice local experience) and the 2 following in a new room built aside just for guests, newer and with its own shower. In the pic you can see the view from my window.

Unique Quality: The regular room was 30 euros, and their bedroom for the first night was 25. That was in august, high season.
