I had a nice stay at the Porto Veneziano. Friendly staff, free wireless internet service. The best part about the hotel is its location right on the harbour. All the restaurants and sites of Chania (Hania, Xania) are in walking distance.
Best Western Porto Veneziano Hotel & Suites: Unbelievably friendly people

Stayed four nights at Hotel Porto Veneziano in Chania. The views over the marina are just picture postcard like. That makes up for the impossibly small rooms. The architect must have been an aircraft designer in his past life! Not an inch to spare.
But believe me. I shall go there over and over again. I have stayed at hundreds of hotels in two dozen countries. I will rate this hotel as one of the best I have ever stayed in. That's because of the staff. Agreed, Greeks are a friendly people, and Cretans even more so. But the entire staff is so friendly and nice, it can pale the inconvenience of the small rooms to insignificance.
The breakfast is very good. The center of attraction is the orange juicer! You open the tap and it gobbles up whole fresh Cretan oranges and squeezes the fresh juice into your glass. It just can't be any fresher. The best orange juice you will ever have!
I have given it four stars ONLY because of the room size. But I was tempted to give it five all the same..
