More about Casa Leone
Wonderful place, wonderful hostess
by TripAdvisor Member gbill77
We stayed in the garden view room with our two kids for four nights in December 2006 and absolutely loved it. The room was split-level; the kids slept downstairs in an area where normally there would be a sofa, and we were upstairs. It was very clean and well-furnished, with a nice touch of a fruit basket and two small bottles of wine waiting for us when we arrived.
Chania has a beautiful harbor and Casa Leone is situated right on it in an ideal location; despite having the garden view room we had access to a beautiful balcony view from the common area that breakfast was served in. Speaking of which, those were great breakfasts! Not that the locals would eat so much for breakfast but it was really a very nice way to start the day when traveling; Greek coffee, fresh OJ (kids really liked the peach juice), croissants and assorted rolls, greek yogurt w/honey, toast sandwhiches w/feta, bell pepper and ham, ... all served with a smile.
We have traveled all over the world and cannot think of a better hostess than Antonia anywhere. She really made the experience special with great conversation in the mornings, great pointers on activities and restaurants, and by being so kind to our kids. When we think of Chania, we think of the lighthouse, the harbor, the great food, maybe some of the other sights that we saw before continuing on our way, but also, of Antonia, and I can’t think of any other place we’ve been where we’ve had that experience.
Casa Leone definitely did not have the feel of an ordinary hotel; the friendliness of both Antonia and Nikos, the beautiful Venetian style room, and the intimate feel of a place with only five suites really made for something special. Highly recommended; I would go back in a heartbeat.

Wonderful!

We stayed at Casa Leone for two nights in March. The place is wonderful, and Antonia is great! We arrived early in the morning on the ferry, and they opened the hotel for us---no one else appeared to be staying there. We had a beautiful room, the "junior suite", which is a loft with a living room and bathroom downstairs and bedroom upstairs. The room also has French doors leading to a small balcony which has possibly the best view in Chania, of the old harbor. There can be no better place to stay in Chania, and perhaps not anywhere in Crete. Also, the restaurants in the old town of Chania aren't bad, but ask Antonia for recommendations---she knows where the Greeks go to eat without being disappointed or ripped off! Also ask her for outing recommendations---we went to Mpalos Lagoon, about 10km northwest of Kissamos (4WD a good idea).
Highly recommended! If you're going to Crete, don't miss this place!!
Best in Chania

We stayed at Casa Leone for two weeks in March/ April because of the good reports on Tripadvisor. I am pleased to say that, despite the glowing reports, the reality still exceeded our expectation. The hotel has been created using good materials to retain the charm of the original Venetian house and the reception / breakfast area and bedrooms have been furnished in a sympathetic way that adds to the effect.
With the prime location of the hotel, the front bedroom balconies together with that leading from the reception room probably have the best harbour view in Greece, but there is a trade-off in that there is the noise from the bars and there inhabitants at night. The top suite, with its superb terrace, and the rear rooms are quieter.
Nicos, the owner, is often about the place and is passionate about maintaining the high standards, but he speaks very little English. The lovely Antonia more than makes up for this. She is a delight. Always welcoming and helpful, she really cares about her guests and does everything possible to ensure that their stay is pleasant. The other staff member is the ever-smiling and warm-hearted Maria, who keeps the place spotless and fills in at breakfast for Antonia on her day off.
We have stayed previously at the Casa Delfino. It was nice, but we feel that Casa Leone is better. We have visited Chania eight times over the years and this is without doubt our best hotel experience.

After reading the other reviews, we had high expectations. In general, we were not disappointed. Antonia and the rest of the staff were everything that they were touted to be. And the setting of the hotel was ideal. It is a beautiful Venetian building with balconies that overlook the harbor in Hania.
Some aspects of the hotel do not necessarily live up to the standards that one might expect in the U.S. or Britain. The bathroom was tiny, with a shower so small that there was no room for a curtain or other barrier to keep water from splashng onto the rest of the bathroom floor.
We would recommend this hotel, despite this issue.
One final note: You should expect to pay in the range of 17-25 Euros for a taxi from the airport. Not knowing any better, we were charged 35 Euros by an unscrupulous driver. You should negotiate the price ahead of time, as the cabs do not appear to have meters.

Fantastic! All of the reviews are right-on. We stayed only one night in April 07 and fell in love. This place is magic, and Antonia is just beautiful. She loves her job, and Hania- it is very apparent. True, the showers are small. But if they changed this place much it would loose it's true flavor. When I go back to Crete, I will stay again. The little balcony overseeing the harbor it priceless! Even my teenager was astounded. Enough to say that when she gets married (someday), she will insist this is her honeymoon location.

Again we booked following the fabulous reviews by other people and were not dissapointed. The hotel is in a wonderful location and the rooms are really lovely. The bathrooms are small yes, but this is not a new hotel, and by extending bathrooms etc. you would ruin the character of a wonderful old building.
We will definately be back and thanks to all those who posted reviews, we would never have booked to stay here otherwise.
Highly recommended, really not to be missed if staying in Crete.
Great Location!!

My husband and I stayed at Casa Leone for 5 nights in April 2007. We were pleasantly surprised by the location and overall apperance of the hotel. Located right on the boardwalk in the old harbor. Our room, Estia #4, was perfect. It was a great size and very unique. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Speak with Antonia for nice day trip ideas. Although breakfast is extra, I would recommend it. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel.

We had only one regret and that was that we could not stay longer.

Casa Leone is a prime location for walking around Chania. The hostess, Antonia is lovely and full of charm and good advice. The accomodations are nice. The bathroom however is tiny and not what most Americans are accustomed to. Otherwise, I would highly recommend.
