The old port
On the left, you can see the ottoman mosque of Hasan pasha (1645), the oldest turkish building of the island. The old port -venetian- of Chania is the biggest and maybe the most interesting in Crete.

Haven't been here for many years, but it's definately one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been too. The old town has so many historical buildings and true venezian architecture. The small tiny shopping streets and the markets... The restaurants are all around the harbour, and it makes a stunning view at sunset.
I didn't stay in the city while I was in Crete, but I was frequently there. The beaches may not be as nice as further west, but if you prefer a nice beach, you can catch the bus to Chania anyway. It's not far.
